Projects 59 El Camino.. Build Pics

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by J.Fishbeck, Jan 2, 2010.

  1. On my way to pick up a NIB Addco front anti sway bar, for the Elco.. Thank you recycler! I lovin' it!

  2. So I took the clock apart, all the way down to the main plate.. the rest is in a sandwich bag now. Then took the new dissected, vacuum gauge and began mating the two together. Here's what it looks like now.. It's missing an arm, but I have chicken soup in my heart!

The arrows show the red area is BAAAHHHHD mileage.. and Green feeds the trees!

  3. I had my temperature gauge checked out, today.. no bueno! The speedo is being rebuilt & turned to zeros! It was pretty bad sounding, when he checked it. So I took a trip to J&M Speed Ctr, picked up a new gauge & sender.. then proceeded to get retro!

    new gauge before..

    orig temp before..

    nakedness..

Then I attached the old to the new..

then I had to lengthen the orig hsing.. I couldn't think of any other way to make it work. Otherwise the needle hit the gauge face..

In the back of my mind, I know that straight up (12o'clock) is 180°.. not bad! Now, I just have to repaint 'all' the needles bright orange & clean everything up. I pick up my speedo head , tomorrow!

Tech-man! That was a stroke of genus. But, did you scrape away that part # that had 666 on it?

  7. Just glad to help, I really hope you get it!

I'm excited to see how I can adapt it, to all my future projects.. I'm stoked!

Hahaha, I hadn't noticed until you said something! Thanks!

LOVE YOUR IDEAS!!! yes Im yelling..very kool gauges. I had a 59 Impala in high school, a LOOOOOONG time ago. and I used aftermarket gages in the stock dash to replace the old ones, and that is what they looked like, I stuck a new gauge in the stock dash. Really injoying this project.

  11. It's almost second nature, to take a picture of everything now. I'm not the greatest picture taker(cos I'm no photographer) but I try!

    very much appreciated!

I don't want any gauges hanging down under my dash.. like my 55 & 57! That's been my motivation!

I just got back with my speedo head. Derek at Empire Speedo & Tach, did an outstanding job! Back to zeros & all the bushings inside were changed. I'm happy!

The hoods ready for primer and the fender has been straightened, to my satisfaction. I put in a couple hours on the fender, earlier. Very little filler needed..

Look'n good man. Been in your neck of the woods for a week n ahalf, would have been cool to stop by and greet. But lifes problems wouldn't allow.

  13. Sorry to hear that. Would've been cool to meet up.. next time, under better circumstances!

  14. I was a sanding and polishing mofo' today! Nothing else to really report.. Waiting for the weather, to get better!

The one on the left is done.. The piece on the right, still shows the machine chatter marks. Took me seven hour,s to finish all that.. not bad!

  15. The newest addition, to the family! Something else, for me to learn how to use..

I had a 59 ElCamino, my first hotrod. 396 325 horse big block, custom paint etc. Belonged to the "Elcamino Club of Portland" Oregon. Miss it. My wife totalled it out in a wreck. I still miss it....

  25. Actually, I've been looking at them online. I might weld in an aluminum bung, in the bottom of the tank. I'm still undecided!

Wow.. Bitter sweet, I would say!

Just put a neck on it and you would have a Flying V Air Guitar. You ganna put flapper doors in the cut outs you've got drawn in ?
