    Hi there,
I've got a 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biaritz (try to say that in one breath) It was my grandmothers car and I have fully restored it, but now I am getting kind of bored with her (like most people get bored with their life partners) and want to add some pizaz, you know ****e up our relationship..I was thinking of setting her up as a mild custom, you know nice flake job, astro supremes or star wires, wide wites, bell flower pipes, maybe a tube grill, and some other things. I'd love to get her all prettied up, she's the only gal I can stand.

So do you guys and gals have any pics of '59 Cads? I'd love to see them!

    Thanks,
    James

There was a cool yellow hardtop at the Detroit Autorama this year.

Would you mind finding some pics? I'm still lost on the search function deal.

59 Cadillacs are beautiful cars and highly desirable. Definitly on my wish list of cars! It would be hard for me to modify or remove a stock grill if I already had one that was in excellent shape. The lines of these cars is already pure art!

    Hey James,

You'd be a fool to do anything to a restored Eldo. At a value of $120K plus, I would say just go ahead and buy a matching Coupe Deville and customize it...
I thought about customizing my '57 Eldorado, but got talked out of it... Four years later I was glad I didnt follow through. Same story with my '59 Convert also (the one in my profile) but short of lowering it, I didnt have the heart to customizing it.

Some cars just shouldnt be screwed with... The '59 Eldo convert is one of them.

Another big factor is that Cadillac buyers are a VERY STRANGE group of people as you know. When you change anything from stock it KILLS the value.... A LOT.

Just my 2 cents... Good luck.

I know it's not a 59 but it may give you some mild custom ideas. I'm only one year late.

    A buddy of mine has 5 '59's.They consist of a Red Eldo Seville,Red Eldo Biarritz,blue Fleetwood,tan SDV,and a Yellow Series 62 coupe.All very nice cars.But here is something interesting,a 75 SDV is actually longer than a '59.

    Just some useless info,thats all.

Im usually one for the nothing is untouchable from customising camp, but in this case I would have to agree about not touching a restored Biarritz. If you are bored of it, sell it and take a small fraction of the money and buy a 59 Coupe project and have your way with it. I actually like the 59 coupe more as far as a custom is concerned. Whatever you do, DONT do what the very tasteless person did in the earlier post. Most cars, especially Cadillacs look really beautiful with a less is more approach. .02

Below is a prime example, my friend Pauls 59, not complete just yet.

  18. Why is it that the people with the most money, usually throw it away in the worst ways????? Follow the advice of others, Buy another car to **** up. If one of the greatest cars ever made is not good enough for YOU and YOU have to change it, what will truely make YOU happy???
I'm gonna stop typing now, nuff said......

The REASON that 59 caddys in all forms are so valuable and sought after is BECAUSE of their styling! I met David Holls (the guy who designed the fins) and he sketched a 59 fin and signed it for me. I had a persian sand bucket seat (one of 99) 59 Eldo vert and had to sell it years ago. Wish I still had it.... blah blah blah. Consider yourself lucky for what you have. Don't like it anymore? Sell it to someone who WILL appreciate it and get yourself something else.

i love to cut stuff up but i have to agree with Hyfire, especially if it's already restored.

here is another pic of that one from Detroit. i wish i could remember all of the details and subtle changes. i do know that fancy double trim (with the lavender painted in between) is NOT original for that car. i'm sure you Caddy guys know what model that trim would have been on originally. that thing sure is a beauty though.

if you are going to customize it, IF, make sure that you modify it only enough that it can easily be put back to stock. That Eldo is one of the few cars that is worth far more as an original than a custom. Find a coupe de Ville and then replicate Larry Watson's (or was it Jeffries??) red one.

You have been given very wise advice here. I hope that you follow it. Any mods you make should be easily reversible.

Nice choice....great panel scallops. The 60's are just so much better looking.

Sorry in advance for the blasphemy, '59 lovers (I did have a mild custom '59 myself in the 60's).

It's not an Eldo, but here's one we did for a friend. It's a series 62, but we added a lot of the Eldo options: power vent windows, door locks, trunk release, cruise control and tri-power.

If you HAVE to do anything, only do what can undone! Lower it. Paint it. Wheels. All of that can be changed back with minimal effort (minus the peint). Other than that...LEAVE IT ALONE!

Or give it to me :D
