Have 59 f100 custom cab in parts (my old truck) a c6 that needs to be refreshed,a 410 mercury Marauder bored to stock 428, solid cam, out of my other old truck. I have heard there are clearance issues with the 428’s oil pan, does anyone know if there is a aftermarket pan to solve the problem, not a 4 quart pan
Canton makes a real nice copy of the FE 4WD truck pan. I just ordered one and installed it on the FE going in a 1960 T-Bird with a Cro** Vi* front suspension. Fit like a glove and holds 7 quarts. Make sure to order the rear sump pickup tube and the mounting stud for it as well. https://www.cantonracingproducts.co...8-fe-ford-deep-rear-sump-truck-oil-pan-black/ That is the joy of hotrodding! Sometimes you just have to buy some parts and see what you can piece together and make work. That, and Canton (and many others) have dimensions on their website, so you can always make a cardboard cutout and give it a try before ordering.
It will work. It uses stock pump different pickup. They are pricey. I have one on my 390 I put in my shoebox. I have a 60 f100 4x4 with a 289 with a 4x4 pan. It clears perfectly and I had the 289 in my shoebox at one point. Find a 4x4 pan and be done.
Nearly 60 years ago I helped a buddy swap a FE into his '59 Ford panel truck. IIRC he used one of those 'universal' FE swap crossmembers that you can still get for the front mounts and slightly reworked the rear crossmember. The front sump pan cleared easily. But this ***umes you're sticking with the stock front suspension; if you're swapping to an IFS or drastically lowering it, all bets are off. Ford used front sump pans on all 2WD pickups from '65 (when the FE were first installed) to the end of production in '76. Only the 4WD got the rear sump pan. As far as pan size, the front sump pans were all pretty much the same. The HiPo versions got better baffling and Ford would vary the amount of oil from 4 quarts to 5 depending on the application in the same size pan. If you use a Ford 4WD pan, do yourself a favor and braze the dipstick fitting to the pan. They tend to leak around the gasket.
I helped a buddy put a 352 into a '56 F100 in 1978. He ordered a Trans Dapt kit that came with mounts and a tubular cross member. No welding, we drilled holes and bolted it in.
My Buds stock 66 pickup with stock 390 pan just barely clears the stock front cross member . When I say barely it’s about 1/2 inch . He has had 3 of these trucks so far and never one issue of pan contacting the cross member , but it’s scary close to me .
