i was looking in a catalog trying to find a new clutch for my 59 ford. apparently there are 2 different splined clutch disks. my question is : what spline would i have on my car. its a 59 ford custom 300 with a six and a 3spd stick, all stock. Ive got to kick myself in the *** because i had the ****** out a while ago to rebuild it but never took down a spline count on the input shaft. Any Ford gurus out there that might know this? any help is much appreciated.
It could have either one. According to the vin on my 57 Ford it came with a 6cyl. When I got it, it had a y-block in it but I think it still had the orignal trans. When I pulled it out to install a T5 trans I was surprised to see a 10in. fine spline clutch disc. Most cars have the bigger spline. The fine spline disc has 23 splines. I believe the other disc is 10 spline. Its a major difference between the two splines and even though you didn't count the splines before maybe you can recall what it looked like. Hope this helps.
I just sold one of these. Fits 1958-59 Ford six cylinder 3 speed. It's a 9-1/2" x 23 spline disc. Not sure but I may have a few more. They've been impossible to find at the usual clutch suppliers. They go for $119.00 plus a $20 core charge. The pressure plate is not a problem (we have those for sure).
