Technical 59 impala 1 pc bumper disassembly?????

    Since the manual says you have to spring the ends of the face to fit in the support, its not really a head scratcher anymore. Its just a strange way to build a car.

    Well it was a head scratcher until I dig some digging. Quite the way to factory install a bumper.

    I can imagine a situation where GM might have designed a bumper bracket that way for use in production only. It probably would have been easier to install the bumper pre-assembled this way on a vehicle as it was moving down an****embly line. A service replacement bumper for this style may have included a special installation kit that consisted of maybe 2 or 4 bracket pieces and a handful of bolts and washers that took a an extra hour or two to****emble to align properly and install. One of GMs not so uncommon "field fixes" that I've seen over the years . . .

    Ahh, what we do for "looks"... :D . Factories aren't immune, esp back in the days of newest/latest/updated-look/"customize-it"-for -everyone era. Always wanted the 1pc bumpers when I had a '59 Bel-Air(blk on blk on gray/silver), no such luck in the upper midwest junkyards in the early 70's. They do look good...
