Does anyone know the gauges in the 59 Impala gauge pods can be replaced by newer style Autometer gauges or even Stewart Warner gauges? I'd rather not run auxillary gauges, and the factory gauges don't satisfy my needs, so I would like to swap them out. Thanks.

  2. They pop right in... use the bracket on the back side to hold them in and you're done.

Awesome. There's no ugly gaps or anything around the edges? I can replace both the speedo (large) and auxillary (small) gauges in the pods? Thanks a lot!

  4. I dont know about the speedo, but the small pods... yes. When you stick the SW's in, you'll still see the bezel on the gauge itself, but it fits nicely in there. I can take a picture of one if you want me to as an example

That would be great. The auxillary gauges were the most important to me anyways. Thanks!

  7. OK sorry... I ended up having to go to work.

I'll go take a picture tomorrow.

Metalflake- You can take your speedo assembly apart and paint it. Just carefully use a small screwdriver and un-bend the edges of the speedo lens/cover thingy and that comes off... on the back side there's two screws and that takes off the back of the speedo assembly. Then you can just take off what you need to (the red and green lenses for signals and high beams etc) and VERY CAREFULLY remove the speedo needle... that's just pressed on. Then you can paint the face of the speedo any color you want, paint the needle... etc. I know a guy who did that and it has turned out very nice... and he cleaned off the lens with .... uhh... not thinner but whatever it is that takes paint off. He painted the notch things black so you could see them etc... It turned out nice. Try that to get a matching white face for your auxilary gauges.
