Are the mountings for the Pontiac and Chevy rears the same? Also, I know the front suspension is different, but can you put a 59 Pontiac on a 59 Chevy frame? Thanks! Sent from my SM-G935F using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Only if it's a 59 "Canadian Pontiac"! The Pontiac rear end is NOT a bolt it into a 59 Chevrolet, but plenty of guys have made similar swaps by moving, swapping, realigning the rear end brackets on the housing. I have the brackets, inner-outer or upper-lower, however you want to call them, you can have them for the cost of shipping (BRAND NEW!); I'll never use them now. I was going to swap a 57 Olds into an OT drag car, but went with a bolt-in 12 bolt instead. Send me a PM if you're interested. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
The 59 Pontiac has what looks like a front suspension A arm right above the center section of the rearend....Chevys don't have that....I believe all the mounting bracketry is different...
59 Pontiac bragged about their "wide track" or "sports stance" ch***is. They widened the track to fit the new wider 59 body. Chevrolet used their old 58 ch***is. If you compare pictures of the 59 Chev and Pontiac you can see the difference. So no, the rear axle won't come close to fitting. Unless as Black Panther said it is a Canadian Pontiac which used a Chevrolet ch***is.
^^^^^^Yep.......been waiting for someone to mention that. Chevy changed in '59, but Pontiac carried on with the 'first' design at least thru 1960 models. Ray
