    The ones I’ve seen marked front it was because of the offset of the center hub. Some have more offset than others.

    Hey, Eric;
    If you do go to a shroud, the correct position for fan blades is 1/3 in, & 2/3 out. Half in/half out is ok, but it works better to do it the way Thermo King specs for their condenser shrouds. I had to do a fair amount of repositioning the condenser fan blades correctly over the last 25+yrs, when they didn't cool properly, due to guys not understanding or comprehending this. Or being just lazy. If no shroud, get the fan blades w/in an inch. Odd # of fan blades is good, but avoid flex fans like the plague they are. Oem are usually good too. Me, I rather like the clutch-fans in shrouds, but they are heavy & not "pretty/flashy". Every little bit helps.
    FWIW.

    If you upgrade to a y-block you will fix that issue and it will go better and be better.

    I had to come up this weekend to repair storm damage, the carports for my Ranchero and Henry J were destroyed, the cars weren't hurt, and got to revisit this as I had to fire up the 59 and pull her out. After warming it up and watching the temp gauge move faster than seemed right, I pulled out grandmas old meat thermometer, and stuck it in the radiator, and as the temp gauge danced and climbed, the old meat thermometer stayed at a steady 180. I am not happy with the airflow through the radiator, and will upgrade the fan and build a shroud, it seems all the problems were related to poor quality gauges and a faulty( read cheap) infrared tool. The P..O. installed a Bosch gauge panel from Summit, which I will be upgrading as well
