I have had this `59 Squarebird for a while and have been lusting to get it looking right. so after two years of talking about it I decided to actually get to it.

Here is how it looked stock
    [IMG]

    WEEK ONE
First we shaved the mirrors, trim, handles, antenna and the rest of the bullshit off and did a fair amount of metal work to get it right

    WEEK TWO
Then we got to the rest of the bodywork and minimal rust removal taken care of and primed
    [IMG]

    WEEK THREE
We also got rid of the horrible valleys that run the whole top if the fenders so that the flake and panel paint will flow better from the hood to the sides of the car
    [IMG]

    WEEK FOUR
Then we started to map out the paintjob before we put the basecoat on it
    [IMG]

    WEEK FIVE
Next we got the car all one color with some basecoat and got all the jams ready as well
    [IMG]

    WEEK SIX
Next week we will be putting some (a shitload) color on it so stay tuned

Yeah it's gonna be something. We are using this crazy flake that shifts shades of colors from the company Old School Flake

Cool thing about birds are that the interiors looks so good to begin with, they can hardly be improved...

I had a '59 in the same color a few years ago, so I'm eager to see how this one turns out.

WOW , looks like this is going to be super cool. Love to see you guys take those nice originals or restorations and turn em into customs and hot rods. I've always said cut the best and sell the rest. Gary

  16. Smoothing the front fender tops is an ass-kicking idea! Just a small item, but it has a great effect overall, good eye. Beautiful car!!-MIKE:cool:

A bit more info on the paint side of it. they guy who is helping me out with the paint scheme is a guy by the name of Butch Lynch that used to work for Watson in the 60's so it's in good hands & The guy who is letting us use the booth is a guy in our club who owns a shop in Southgate Ca. by the name of the Hop Up Shop. he has been is business less than a year and they are turning out some great work.

We get back in the booth on Tuesday so I'll have more posted this week

It had some rust issues that needed to be tended to before it ate up the car and a few other body issues, so I decided to jump in with both feet and do it up!

Yeah Fonz, I am really gonna have to start working on my sedan cause I will never be able to drive the bird when it's done.

On another note we just got back from the fabric store with 6 yards of lace :)

First of all let me introduce myself. My name is Jerry and I'm a long time viewer of the HAMB, and long time hot rodder. I love square birds and yours looks like it will be awsome when its done. Here's a picture of mine which I finished early this year. I also own a 32 Ford 5 window, which I will post a picture of later. Can't wait to see yours when it's finished.
