I am looking for a source for head bolts for a 59a (with Navarro heads).
I can find various head stud kits but not a source for head bolts by size.
ARP bolts are over kill and besides they have a 9/16 head that are small for acorn covers.
Any recommendations where to source head bolts from?

    Next question:
Some of the hole locations in the Navarro (H&H supplied) heads do not align with the block bolt hole location…….using new studs snugged into the holes my NOS Ford heads slide right on. To save a little time does anyone have the hole location measurements from ford drawings for a 24 stud head?

    thanks,
    TMAG

Gotta ask why you want bolts instead of studs? You can seal the threads on the studs into the block, and never have to worry about breaking the seal when you check the torque later. If you use bolts you’d break the seal every time.

TMAG, you can use grade 8 bolts from a hardware store or bolt supply house if you like...the torque on a flathead is far below the rating of the bolts. A correct diameter hard washer under the bolt head is recommended. Remember to use a good sealer on the threads since the holes go to coolant.
The other problem is serious...the holes should line up. Hopefully they aren't so far off you can't relieve them a bit to allow installation. Sounds like a quality control issue.

    Reproduction Navarro heads?

My vintage Navarro heads fit my 59a flathead.

    Yup reproduction heads
If i understand the modern sealants they do not set up allowing them to reseal with re torquing.
The hole locations are just far enough off to cause interference not allowing the head to drop in.
Pretty sad that with todays CNC milling that this happens☹️

I can understand the heads not dropping on ONLY if your block has STUD, a stud or 2 can be bent enuf to not make removal and****embling the head from the block difficult. If the studs are removed and BOLTS are in place of the studs, the heads should work fine unless u are in possession of an inferior set of heads that are not machined properly, however the holes in the heads are generally larger(the bolts should spin easily in the individual bore of the heads). Even with all 24 bolts barely screwed into the block(meaning all bolts are screwed in enuf where u are comfortable they will thread in further with no difficulties) there should be enuf play in the head to be raised or pushed upward to give more room between the top of the valve cutouts and the top of the already inserted valves. You also have to make sure the bolts are very clean where there is adequate clearance between the bore hole of the heads and the o.d.(smooth part) of the bolts. Flatheads Forever. I've used ARP thread sealant in the past and still had some leakers. Recently, I tried Hercules brand pipe thread sealer I sourced from a plumbing jobber and not one hole leaked.

Here's what I used in my last flat head on the threads 20240723_083005.jpg and nothing leaked.

That’s what I use on flathead studs.
