Mounting 59A in 34 5 window coupe. Any suggestions on front mount height? What is the best height from the bottom of the water pump foot to the top edge of the frame?

No measurements at hand but ford retrofitted these later engines into 33 34's by using a u shape mount, you can still find them on egay, swaps etc.
I'll post pics when I get home from work

  4. Look up Chris' thread when he built his Roadster with a V8, i remember seeing one of those in his chassis too. I don't know if he made it himself or not though.

Also I think repro-d by Drake. Actual height point to measure is crank ratchet level with crank hole through the grill and radiator...you need a single sheave crank pulley, just remove front stuff from a '40-41 0r '42-8 one. Also a generator with fan mount.

Great information! I could still use the height if anyone knows what it is for a starting point. I have a 59a engine setting in a 34 frame and I'm attempting to mockup some stuff. I can adjust it later if it's close! Anyone have a photo of the retro mounts in place?

Height: Shove the toolkit crank through the bearing atop the spring perch. If it goes into the crank ratchet, engine is at design height, and of course trans mount locates it in back.
Spacers, like the ones Ford sold, move engine up and also move the holes out laterally to match '37-48 pumps.

I'll try that Bruce if I can find the piece that goes on top of the spring perch! I know I had one once upon a time! I am working with a bare frame, old circle track 5-window body and a lot of various parts. The engine is a 1947 59A. It will end up as a mid to late 50s fender-less street rod. Part of the issue at the moment is the body is off the frame and I do not have a radiator. I am attempting to rough in the engine location to get a few parts in place before I set the body on the frame. Know this is a bit of a guessing game, but was hoping to get it close enough with the body off that it would only take minor adjustments once the body and radiator are in place. The radiator location will be another issue as the brackets that mount it are missing from the frame! I have two 34 frames and both frames have them removed. So, more fun in the future.

I currently have the water pump mounts setting on three of the stock biscuits, think it is close, but? I will be using the factory u-shaped retro fit adapters as soon as I get them. Also had a question on fan size, anyone know the stock diameter of a 33-34 fan?

If I remember I can look at the casting that goes in the U bolts and give you a measurement on how high crank would sit...then you can just put a broomstick at right height and into center of crank pulley to check on that.

Guess I'm not good at explaining what I'm looking for. I was wanting to see a photo of a 59A engine installed in a 33 - 34 frame. I am interested in what height the engine sits in relation to the frame rails. The photos of the mount are great but do not help with the engine height in the frame question. Guess I will just have to wait for the mounts to arrive and install them and check it myself. Just seems strange no one has any photos of these mounts installed, I thought they were common! Thanks for you help Bruce and can't wait to get the mounts and get them installed so I can move on to the next issue!

I made my own, too. The difference between the centres of the holes is one inch, so each spacer has to offset the hole by 1/2". The height is around 2". The 59A has a longer crank snout than the earlier motor, so you just use this as a guide, and have it nestled in the u-bolt clamp piece, but with about a 1/4" clearance.

One drawback is that you can't easily change the fan belt. I found it easier to remove the u-bolts than the engine mounts. If none original u-bolts were used and the crank guide deleted you could probably change the belt without having to undo anything.

Those look like an "easy to fab" item. Square tubing is great !
