Hey, I work in a University. It's hard to tell the difference between the most highly educated and Alzheimers patients...neither intersects very well with most humans.
Yea some are really socially awkward aren't they. It has been suggested by some that I am socially awkward, but *I was invited to a Mensa meeting once, and let me tell you those guys made me feel normal. *I cannot think of a logical reason why.
I don't suspect many of us qualify as "normal" ...but then all normal is , is a setting on a washing machine!....back to the 59ab.....clean up all you can see ,oil it up and fire it up!
Maybe it's too obvious to mention but I will anyway, have a shop vac going right where you brush. **** that **** up as you go so you don't get any abrasive elements in there. College? On this topic? I got educated at HKU of Motown. You savvy types probably graduated from there too. Getting a university education isn't all that society pushes that it is. Your (our) real worry is that the trades are considered "Alternative Career Path" in many schools throughout the US. How do you feel knowing that our journeyman fathers are considered as such these days? Alternative **** was for those with learning disabilities back in my day. Not to derail this topic, but getting a real hands-on education is part of what makes our forum what it is, and we ourselves educate to a much better degree (no pun intended) than those schools that advertise on our car TV shows. A university needs to collect $$$$$$$$. We and ours need to collect knowledge and skill. And college prevents Alzheimers and dementia? Now that's a sales pitch to the 10th power! This life we lead a**** our old cars and parts does more to keep that **** at bay than anything. We see the past and the future, us old dogs learn new tricks, our personal networks grow. And hell yes, clean that rust up give her a shot. Don't be afraid to use some chemical rust remover as well, just don't let it run all over the place or, again, get down in the cylinders. For an afternoon and a couple head gaskets you could be on the road.
So . . . the reality is that it was a good thing I pulled the engine. I've attached a picture of what was in the oil pan. I don't think the oil pump could have pumped oil through the amount of sludge in the pan. Now we'll see what the machine shop thinks about the condition of the block, crank, etc.
