All, Wayne here, overthinking like I usually do. Building 32 frame, 46 rear, 39 type trans, have a 59 engine, has two bolt distributor, I have installed points and condenser, and crab cap conversion. I’ve timed dist per Vanpelt instructions. My question is ; do I get number 1 on tdc and rotate dist shaft to match the slot in the end of the cam? If I do that will the rotor be pointing at number 1? Thank you all in advance for your assistance.
If I remember correctly,,,,,they will only time one way . The cam has an offset slot in the front,,,,,,it can’t be 180 out . 8BA can be put in out of time,,,,,but not the others before . I’m assuming the wires are in the correct location ,,,firing order . Tommy
The tang on the dist is offset, it will only fit one way. Install and wire the cap, following the numbers on the cap. Easy Peasy.
It will only fit one way... though guys have tried to install them 180 deg. out and usually break something before figuring it out.
^^^^^^ If the offset "tang" on the dist. is lined up correctly, the dist. should slide onto the round counterbore in the timing cover fairly easy. If it doesn't, rotate the drive tang 180 and try again. Try without the gasket until you're sure it's correctly installed; then install the gasket.
T-man was doing some work on his [my old] 59 ab and he managed to attach the distributor the wrong way... Something broke
