Greetings all, I'm new to the boards here (an "FNG" as we called `em in the service), and would be grateful for your input on this project:
I have a 34 pickup that I put together for my Dad a number of years ago. He's p***ed away now and the truck's come home to roost in my garage again. It's had a stock 21-stud in it (which got overheated once and is now stuck), but I'm building a new 59AB with triple Ford 94's, Edelbrock manifold and heads, cragar exhaust manifolds, and etc. It's also getting a little friendlier gear set in the diff, as well as a set of 15" inchers with wide-whites.
Before I start re-engineering the wheel, so-to-speak, can anyone share their experiences with such a swap as far as the 59AB's fan-to-radiator clearance goes, and if it was a problem for you, what did you do to overcome it?
The truck will still be 6 volt 3-brush w/cutout, so an electric fan will not be considered for use. Also, has anyone run into clearance issues between a Mallory flathead dual point (front mounted) and the fan?
Many thanks in advance for your advice, guys. BTW, I am an ASE Certified Master tech / L1 with about 40 years of industry experience and 20 years as a shop owner and will be happy to share my expertise with you whenever I can. Automotive electronics are my "thing", as are fuel systems and driveability problems.
    Jim

  2. Only thing i can chime in on here is that from memory the early 21 stud engines mount lower than the later ones. Have seen a pic or two floating around here (trying to find it now) of a U shaped bracket that i believe Ford produced for putting the '37 onwards engines into the earlier cars at a dealership. I don't know the measurements of the bracket but the mounts on the later engines must be higher up on the engine than earlier, so the bracket was used to take up the space.
