Has anyone seen a template for cylinder head stud position, if all the studs are removed? I have a short block with no studs and this is one of my issues to resolve. Ive done a HAMB search & Goggle, nothing comes up......

Short studs in the ten holes across the bottom row. All the rest are long studs.

  3. Depends on what heads you're running -- if you're running a stocker (as you mentioned below), then the short ones go on the bottom. Some of the aftermarket heads (like Edelbrock block letters) have the longer studs everyplace. Make sure you coat the coarse threads (ones in the block) with some really good thread sealer (gorilla snot) and use some anti-seize on the stud area that the heads cover - makes it much easier to pull the heads later on.

The Green Bible lists the following for '38 thru '48 passenger car engines:
    (16) Studs 2.34" long PN40-6065
    (28) Studs 3.09" long PN40-6067
I believe all the short ones go in the bottom row of each of the heads. Dick Spardaro can prolly furnish these....give him a call or send him a PM!
