If you’re really worried about your air filter getting wet fit a rain sock, they still allow reasonable air flow but are water repellent silicone.

Could you have an insert made that could be stuck into the scoop opening, maybe held by a set screw that protruded out and curved down somewhat? It would slip in and the downward curve would reduce any water ingestion even when parked.

I made a cover for my scoop for times that I trailered it. Jim's right, blowers are good in rain if the engine is running, but any time it's not running, you have to guard against liquid lock.

This blower has been a driver, rain or shine, for 29 years. No room in Red Greth's hand made Speed Sport scoop for filters. Rebuilt the engine about 8 years ago. The pistons and cylinders looked perfect. I made the cover for when it's parked.
Build it the way you want it, and drive it!

Thank you for all the insightful replies. I will look into that outerwears brand, that seems like a good option. I do plan to put a cover over the scoop when parked if it’s raining.

Thought about this a little more. I think a better approach would be a somewhat of a box shape, even made to compliment the scoop shape if possible. What I'm suggesting is instead of slipping "into" the scoop, it slip "onto" the scoop. A box with no bottom side, but maybe a perforated metal screen or even a filter inside. That way rain from above and ahead would be deflected and air would flow upward into the simple box shape Even if you have to stop, the rain is deflected and simple to remove once the rain stops.

I keep remembering a recent trip to pick up a wooden cabinet with my trailer.....nice piece of furniture. Rain came from" outta no where" and it was torrential. Couldn't see to drive, and I had wipers on my dd truck, but luckily I was near an overp*** and pulled off the road. Like they used to tell us when we were teenagers.....use protection!

I run a pair of those Outerwear pre filters on my dune buggy and they do their job well, filters are always clean. I also bought a set for my roadster's velocity stacks as there is no filter on those 97's. They stay on even at freeway speeds. I did have my daughter use the roadster's as a pattern and make me set of water proof ones in case the car sits in the rain.
