I am converting my 40 Ford to 12 volts and will retain the stock wiring harness as it is fairly new. Have changed generator , regulator, coil, solenoid, bulbs, horn relay to 12 volts. Question is do I remove the old resistor and if so what do I do with the wires? Any help appreciated. Have done searches but can't find the info I am looking for.

Depends on the coil you used, and how much voltage you need to drop.

You'll also have to reduce the voltages to the gauges as well.
