Car was a total loss. Destroyed Chassis, broke back of block , crank and cam, broke transmission, threw the drive shaft out, bent the rear end, ruined the seat. Even chipped the teeth in the rearend and busted the battery . We saved the guages, seat belts and the two left side tires and wheels.

This picture is either from Nashville Speedway (TN) at the fairgrounds or in Birmingham, Al. All the modifieds from the early to mi 60's ran v8's. This particular car was running a 327 with Hillborn injectors. Bobby's brother Donnie ran a #88 sedan with a 327 and fuel injection off a Corvette. I grew up watching these cars and would love to find one of these old cars to restore.

One of my limited late model dirt cars. Had a Chevy small block in it. Ran at Central Park raceway, Beaver dam Ky and Thunder Race way Morgantown Ky. Good dry slick car but only won a couple of races with it.

The Transformer. I have ran this car on asphalt and dirt and it had five different bodies on it. A cadillac, 80 Monte Carlo, 84 Monte Carlo and two camaros. Won races at Sportsdrome and Charlestown Speedways in Indiana and Central park and Thunder Raceways in central Ky. Turned it over at Central park while leading the heat race as an 80 Monte Carlo cut the top and front fenders off and ran second in the feature. Then it got the 84 body.

Here are some pictures of my present wifes cars. We have been married twenty years. She is a very good dirt driver. She ran in the hobbie stock class and made a lot of men drivers look bad with with these low dollar cars. all of her cars were built out of leftovers. She didn't run every night. She was the flag person at Thunder raceway for a season and ran the pit stand and one of the tow trucks for a while. I won the feature and she finished third third one night in the same class. I ran three different classes most nights. This is her second car. I will have to find pictures of her first one.

This is my wifes third car. She did great in it. Another driver bought it, moved it up a class and won four features.

This is my wifes last car. Didn't run it too long until we quit dirt and went to running outlaw figure 8.

I know there are a lot of pictures of my cars, But I used to build ,race and the sell them to build the next one. I also ran a parts truck at the tracks for awhile and some times would have a many as five cars at the track at one time between myself, my wife and my engine man and codriver Steve packer. I sold eight cars to hobbie and street stock drivers in southern Ky. in two years. I've had Howe, Dillon and phillips late models. I've also had NACAR sportsman, ARCA and ASA cars. I have built, bought, raced and sold about 30 cars in 40 years plus crewed for and sponsored friends on their cars.

I built this car because of a quirk in the rules at Thunder Raceway. They had a 112" wheelbase rule but not stock wheelbase in the hobby. I moved the front clip out 4" shoved the motor againt the fire wall, put Paul Blevins in the car and swept four nights racing. He took it to Bardstown Speedway Ky. started dead last in the feature three nights in a row and smoked them. The car was then outlawed. Sold it to some guy from Tenn. where it was legal as a limited late model.

My Late model at Sportsdrome Speedway Jeff. Ind. There were no aftermarket Monte Carlo bodies so I made my own from aluminum. Raced it at Beech Bend Park Bowling Green Ky., Charlestown Speedway Ind. and Whitesville Speedway the home track for Darrel and Mike Waltrip. Have ran against them several times in the Pepsi and Mountain Dew races there.

I helped Billy Bieckert build a modified 8 car which he totaled at mid season. We built this car in 6 days including changing to rear disc brakes and going 150 miles to get a Chevelle convertable chassis. I bought it when he ran into financial troubles and it became the Transformer.

I helped Benny Eagler with this car. He won the street stock Championship at the Sportsdrome Speedway Jeffersonville Ind. The only chrysler product to win any championship there that I Know of.

I like the hand lettering also. I painted and lettered most of these cars. I still do some lettering and pinstriping. We do the streetrod thing now and I do some flames and striping on them

With all due respect. Wasn't this a 60's & 70's Oval Track MODIFIED post? I don't mean to piss on anyone's parade here, but it seems the train has gotten derailed. I believe there's an OLD STOCK CAR post floating around the HAMB also.

I don't like to post scans of racing trade papers because the photo quality's not there, but those Calinoff slides got me off on a L.I./Islip jag. Even found some old ('72) Islip videos on YouTube.

Gary Winters, from the Aug. 4, 1972 issue of Gater Racing News.

Two more from the same issue of Gater. Hard to believe it was 37 years ago...

What was the typical wheel offset for the right front? The wheels I got with my #92 car where all 15" wide. The left sides both had 5" of offset, the right rear had 1 1/2" of offset. The right front was marked as a left side tire, it ad 5" of offset and was hitting the steering arm (I believe it was put on to narrow the car for shipping). Of the spare wheels/tires, a tire marked right front had 1 1/2" of offset, one spare wheel has 3" of offset. I'm thinking the 1 1/2" offset might put to much strain on the spindle and wheel.

    Thanks for the help.
