Very cool pics guys. I have to say I been through these pics a couple times and always see something I did not see before. Those cars had character compaired to the cookie cutter chassis we see today. I'd like to find an old mod to restore for some vintage races they have around here. Be kinda neat to make one street legal too just to tick off the local fuzz:D.

  5. 62 JR is Kenny Goodermote from West Sand Lake, NY.

The car here is a '37 Ford, called the Harvey Ford. Owners last name was Harvey. He also ran a brand new '55 Chevy. Drove for Kenny Tremont Sr. for several years. I think his last ride was the Billy Young, John Warren white #28 at Lebanon Valley. He also ran Riverside Park, Pine Bowl, Menands and I think State Line.

As a kid, he was one of my favorite drivers. When I got a paper route, he was one of my customers. Needless to say, I spent a lot of time there listening to racing stories. As I got older we snowmobiled together and I was interested in dating his daughter (she was a babe). Then I moved south.

I saw his picture on a web site a couple of weeks ago where he was talking to a group of folks at the Vintage Racing Museum in Saratoga, NY.

So, I gave him a call and chatted a long time about then and now. Previously, the last time I talked to him was about 2000, shortly after I read he was inducted into the NYS Stock Car Racing Hall of Fame.

He's 84 years old now, and just retired from driving the special needs station wagon school bus last June!!!!!!!

I have some great stories I can tell about watching him race and other stuff we go hooked up in :eek:.

Bullfather - (your post # 3843) - I own the #43 3w coupe now (new paint scheme) and raced it with my vintage club 'til the end of the '07 season here (upstate). I have a shot of it from our club photog but it's 2 mb. Do you think it will post?

If I'm not mistaken..1952 Indy 500 winner Troy Ruttman's son was killed on the 3/4 mile in the first race ever at Pocono in a Super Modified..The race was won by Steve Krisloff

Dwight is still racing modifieds. He has raced in the True Vale Modified Racing Series and won numerous Modified track championships at Claremont Speedway.

The #657 looks like that pic coulda been taken at either the Cheshire Fairgrounds or the track that used to be in West Brattleboro, Vt. I could be wrong tho.

  16. Jack Farquhar. Ran at Fonda and Lebanon Valley. I remember him driving a real ugly looking Maverick (I think) bodied modified at the Valley. The roof looked like a huge wind scoop.

That picture of the 181 is probably Pepper Eastman. It says Pepper on the door. He lost his life at Fonda. Don't know if it was in that car.

Correct re Troy Ruttman's son. I've forgotten who won.

Troy was there too. Prior to that .. the last time I saw him was on a VERY HOT day at the Trenton (NJ) mile when I helped to literally pull him out of an Indy roadster (due to heat exhaustion) mid race, so a relief driver could climb in. That was the last Indy car race that Troy Ruttman ever ran.
