He drove some mods for some Yankees at Islip and a couple others when he was points chasing in the mid '70's. Any photos of that would be appreciated.[/QUOTE]

    Hey,

    I resemble that remark:rolleyes:

to create an avatar(the little pic by your name). go down to where it says "forum jump" drop down box click on it and scroll through until you see "user control panel" click on that and you'll see a bunch of options, one of them is edit avatar. you'll get through it. If not PM me and we can work it out.

Now that some of my website photos have started showing up thought it might be a good time to post one and ask for any info. Car was driven by Paul Martell in the late 50s at West Peabody and Westborough Mass. Was the Bomber division Champ in 58 at Peabody. Any info about this car at either track would be a help.

  11. For you George M. the real #46 Mason's Garage '36 Chevy coach,427. Drivers included Paul Radford, Red Farmer, Bobby Allison, Freddy Adam, and Curtis Turner drove it at Bowman Gray in his return to NASCAR.
Harold Smith said he was crewing that night and would get to split the winnings with Curtis. He said Curtis went to the front from close to the rear, which is no small feat at Bowman Gray, then promptly pulled into the pit. Harold said he rushed over to see what he could do to help fix the car, and Curtis told him there was nothing wrong with the car, he was just through for the night, he had a party to go to! Cost Harold a couple of hundred!

  12. I know a gal that knew Curtis back when, I ask her about that,,,,

  13. See if this is her. Supposedly Curtis brought this girl up to Dublin/Pulaski Speedway and they made her the race queen. Biggest trophy Paul ever got.Still has it!

Sorry for the delay, but the sign shop/model car buff still has them scanning them (supposedly) and has moved residence and his shop and I'm trying to chase him down to get them back, whether he's finished or not.

  15. Jeez. I've heard that story from a bunch of the old guys with photos around here. There are alot of unscrupulous people that steal these things once they get their hands on them. You even have to watch your albums at car shows! People will try to steal them out of the album when your'e talking to someone else. Hopefully you know this guy well enuff to get them back. I'm really looking forward to seeing them! Which Mason cars did you do?

  16. Rad46,,the pic isn't her. She did know about the B-G story tho'.

IIRC, I never lettered a Mason car, contrary to what had been said but, I did letter the orange #18 that Paul Radford drove for Reid Vaden after departing the orange #07 for Speedy Thomas. I had two "Best Appearing" cars at Martinsville, a Busch Series Nova, #0 driven by Jay Hedgecock and the #46 Modified Vega driven by Billy Middleton.
For several of the nearly 40 years I have been a signwriter and lettered race cars, I was lettering 3/4 of the Modifieds, Limited, and Street Division at Bowman Gray Stadium. I've lettered and pinstriped for Richard Childress, the Wood Brothers, among some Winston Cup part timers over the years. One year I lettered 82 races cars between mid February and the first of May.

  18. Here's a few of the #18 for you.

OH, YEAH BABY! That's what I'm talking about! Thanks, man. You have no idea how long I've been looking for a picture of that car. The best I've been able to come up with is this one that I clipped from one of my videos. You made my day! George Meade

  24. Here's a few more George. Man, I didn't realize those were your films! First time I saw those and saw the #46 on the trailer 2 separate times I thought it was Christmas!
It's been tough finding good photos of the car. It was like the red headed step child to the #45. #46 was always a big block, Perk preferred the small blocks in the #45. I believe these were all I've got. paulandwilliamatreading.jpg

  25. That's Red Farmer,Harold Smith, and William Mason in the one photo. They took it up north to race it with Red driving. He had just driven it to a big win at Southside Speedway. The #46 is on the trailer behind them. Red's truck. The guy standing in the door of the truck was Red's and Bobby Allison's right hand man. I don't know his name.

WOW! Thanks! And you're right, finding pictures of the 46 is...WAS...nearly impossible. I always loved the team car concept, it seemed to be a Southern thing...the 45 & 46...the 90 & 91...The Flying 11 & 01. I'm glad you liked the videos; I've protected them like gold for the last 40 years or so. I always wanted to share them with the world of old-time racers and modern technology and YouTube made it possible.
