I may be wrong but Buzzie's own cars were always '37-'38 coupe bodies. The Whitney and Ohio find are '36 bodies.

Anybody wouldn't happen to have any photos of John Anderson #30 Dramie sponsored ride, also in a #71 Monza, Anderson also drove the #66 light blue Vega which is pictured on this site with other driivers, Jerry Makera #42 Thrush sponsered ride at tracks such as, Trenton, Charlotte or Daytona in the modfiied superspeedway races from the 1970's.

Also Joe Ruttman #70 the AVC yellow monza, I think at Daytona, Tommy Maier H purple vega modified. I saw one on this site and was wondering if others were available.

    Thanks!

That's Dick Dixon at Empire Speedway in Menands, New York. It was on the left side of the road just as you started across the Men ands Bridge that took you across the Hudson River and into Troy, New York. First business on the Troy side of the bridge was Bridge Sunoco. See the billboard in the pic for it? That Sunoco was eventually run by Carlton Hughes. He was the driver part of #57 Hughes Brothers Racing. Spencer was the wrench.

My dad took me there to the races a whole bunch of times. It was a Wednesday night track. In the background is the screen for the drive-in theater. Went there a lot too.

Was a paved 1/4 mile track. Many of the stock cars that ran there, also ran Pine Bowl Speedway on Sunday afternoons. They had special shows for the midgets and late models. I remember brand new '55 Chevs, '56 Fords, etc. running there under the old United Sanction. Dick Dixon also had a white '56 Ford convertible he ran in that series. It was also the 8 Ball.

I think Dick had some money, because all he did was race. He always had quality cars. Sadly he got killed doing it. Way I understand it, he wrecked in a borrowed car. The seat broke loose from the floor. Think it was at Thompson or maybe Stafford. What a waste.

Oh yeah, the Menands Race Track and drive-in was bulldozed and up went a Two Guys Department Store. What a waste of a good race track.

Well I just picked up my Father's old car from the late 60's. It was restored back in the early 90's. It's time to bang out the dents and return the original paint job. I raced it for 3 days at the Zephyrhills Autofest on a small dirt track. What a great time.

Cool! that aerial picture of Islip Speedway was taken out of the window of a 4 seat Cessna 172 that my brother Rick Holmberg was piloting. We took that and several other neat Islip photos that day! Photo taken by our friend Billy Wisher.

This is my Dad & his Figure 8 car that was driven at Islip Speedway by Rene Charland in 1964. I wish my Dad was still here so I could get all the details on it?

Hey Kris - Do any of your family's old Modifieds still exist? Not sure how many you owned or how often Rick, etc drove for others. Saw Rick several times at Riverhead in the mid-late 1980s, always enjoyed watching him run.

If my memory serves me correctly, this Don Howe pinto was actually built by Richie Evans. One of the few times that Richie and crew actually built a car for someone that early on. Of course, RE Fabrications was later established in the 80's. My personal favorite Don Howe car was his fastback vega, before this pinto, with a very similar paint job, the metallic blue with the thick silver numbers. Lunch is over, back to work!

    Thanks for the pics.

Hi, Thanks for the question. Unfortunately that was the last car we owned the white & yellow #14 that I believe you saw run at Riverhead. We also competed at Thompson & Waterford a few times. That car was sold about 1990 to Al Emmerino. I miss those days.
After Modifieds Rick drove a NEMA Midget for Pete Pernesiglio. This is a picture of Rick at Star Speedway in NH. I wish I could say I have an old 9A coupe that my Uncle Bob drove tucked away in a garage somewhere. LOL

I wish you would have sold that car to someone else. ANYONE ELSE!
I, too, wish I still had one of them coupes. Or even the Sonny Seamon built Pinto...oh well.

Does anyone recall seeing this car that was probably run as a supermodified during the early to mid 70's most likely in Michigan?

I remember my brother & I out east on the island exploring around and he took me to Westhampton Speedway, it was closed down at this point. And as we approached the track we were amazed to hear a modified running and as we walked up and looked onto the track it was Don Lajoie (not sure if it was in this #17 car) testing and practicing there all by himself on the closed track! 1975-ish? pretty cool memory

If you post that picture and your question over on the sprint car thread, there's a much better chance the folks over there would know.
