  10. Bull, I believe your question mark photo is the 1972 Dogwood 500 @ Martinsville. The #92 is the renumbered #29 of Chubby Arrington (owner) driven by Joe Henry Thurman (walking around it) The #07 is Speedy Thomas' car driven by Hank Thomas that day. Thurman drove the #07 alot too.

  15. Amazing Pete, I was just on the Long Island Thread reminising about the old days and people we knew and I mentioned Jimmy II and Larry Hoffman. I come here and you have old shot of Jimmy I up, nice stuff too.

Great shot of one of the greatest and one my favorite cars from the '69-early seventies era. The car looks to be new at this point, Frankie's name isn't even on the roof yet. Thanks for sharing. Love to see more of the mods from this era.

They probably look good because I am scanning them from my original slide film and not a faded 40 year old print.

Unfortunately, when I stopped shooting race photos in the mid 70s I stored my photos in the basement, and most of them were damaged by the dampness. I trashed about 80-90% of my photos and saved only the ones that were still good. I didn't know that computers were coming. If I still had them today they could probably be saved with some computer restoration.:(

Hey guys, looking for a little help. Back in the early - mid 60s, in northern IL, southern WI, and eastern IA, the old coupes were the race cars of choice on the local dirt tracks. I was a kid about 8-10 then, and all I remember was the old bodies and wide tires. This would have been before the coming of the "late models" by a couple years.
Anyway, I have a desire to build a street version of that era coupe from my area. I know all the cool cars were early-mid 30s body, but I have a 48 Plymouth coupe body that has rendered itself available for this project (its good for little else).
The body will be mounted on a shortened Dodge Dakota frame (its here as well) and will be supporting a roll cage, cut fenders (or removed?), and wide tires.

In building the roll cage, would that era car have used 1 1/2" black pipe as roll bar material? Would the cage have had cut and welded corners or would they have been bent? What was the process of bending the pipe used, if they were bent? When someone looks inside, I want them to wonder if this may have been a surviving the real thing. Would the fenders have been completely removed, or just opened up? Is there a chance anyone has a picture or 2 of a 46-48 Plymouth racecar from the early to mid 60s? Interior shots would be great as well. Any help is appreciated, I was just a kid in the stands that now wants to drive a street version.
    Thanks, Gene

That Vigliarolo #34 that Flemke drove is actually in the left corner of this picture of George Tet. You can only see the 4, the car is still on the trailer. You can also see the 1Z of George Wagner right behind the X-9 of George Tet. Ironically, George Wagner drove the X-9 right after George Tet.
