More Seekonk, mid 70's I guess. That #1 sure got a lot of BOO's back then.

This program was dated 9-11-71. The license plate on the other hand has me baffled. If anyone could me a clue, that would be great..

It looks like there are some subtle differences, but the starters seem to be in the same position. Weird that no other colors are changed though. And the angle is slightly different. I would say it's the same car.

The pic of Richie I placed here was purchased at Seekonk in the late 90''s as was the Bodine #1.(same day I believe) The only other color I saw on Richie's cars was primer. The only thing I can add is that its a Johnny Mercury photo.
Does anyone have a clue what era that plate is from?

That picture of Richie sure looks photo shopped. As great as Richie was at hitting his marks lap after lap I do not think even he could stop the car with the Goodyear name in the same position front & rear.

Also the positioning of the people in the background looks the same. Nice fake out though....

wondering if you guys can help me find some photos.
I was searching the word "modified" a while (6-7 years) back, and came across some shots of a 69? plymouth roadrunner modified, was maybe experimental and I think they said it was banned too, had some sort of wierd torsion bar front suspension, and the entire drivetrain was set back and on the right side of the car, kind of like jazombecs 37...

no idea what site or where I saw them now...

If you look at the Starter or ***istant on the right he is standing differently. Look at the crowd closly and you will see they are in different positions. Also the car is not sitting in the same spot on the pavement. look at the edges of the pavement. also note Richies head position is not the same. In the yellow car you can't hardly make out the goggles but in the black car they are definate. Also behind Richies shoulder in the black car photo is a bunch up of what looks like uniform and the yellow car there is not. Look at the shadow of the two cars. They are totally different and show the pictures were taken at different times of the day by a little bit. If it is photo shopped where did they get another picture of the car at a slightly different angle and with the asphalt different. The lettering on the quarter panel is slightly different. It seems like there was a picture of a black Richie Evans car in Stockcar Racing. . The two pictures are different so must be from a different time of day. Obviously it is the same day from the look of the guy in the tower, but a lot of others in the crowd are in different positions. Does any one know where the pictures were made? Maybe someone from the track or someone who attended might know. I know Richie had some other drivers in his backup cars. Could he have been practicing a second car for another driver? I have seen Evans cars other colors. I think a backup coupe was red with the number 161 with another driver. I know there was a black coupe with orange stripe and numbers. I have a complete collections of Stockcar Racing and Circle Track. If I get time I will research and see what comes up.Allstarracing

You may be right but look @ the nerf bar & the oil resevoir lines. The nerf bar is bent exactly the same & the oil lines have the same kinks & bends. Tell me what you see there.

This car was featured in Stock Car Racing magazine. There were actually two of that type built. One had a red, white and blue paint job and I think was from the northwest. The other was black. Both had mid engines. One had the carb where the rear of the dash would nornally be and the other had the carbs where the driver coud reach out towards the p***enger door and touch them. One was a reverse rotation engine. Allstarracing

Look at the drivers side leading edge of the hood. The yellow car has an oblong cut out in it but the black car has an angle cut that matches the bend in the hood. Also look at the right front tire. on the black car you can just see the start of the G on Goodyear. On the yellow car the tire is rotated too far down for the G to be on top. It would be in the middle of the tire towards the rear of the car. Also note the front tires are turned at different angles. Allstarracing

Yeah, I see what you are saying & I also noticed that the yellow car doesn't appear to have a wind screen but the black car does. Maybe it's just the angle of the picture

It could be photo shopped from another picture to the track but to me it is two different pictures. The black car could have been a yellow car or the same yellow car but with some weekly changes from a different day and photo shopped to black but in my opinion it is two different pictures. Maybe the same car a week apart with some modifications

  19. Evens never had a yellow car, they were all County Orange with black stripes. He got the paint via the, well, lets say some friends who worked for the town and county.
Or at least, that is what is rumored to be true. Excuse me if if I have a coughing jag.

  20. never said they were the same photo, the angles are different but I believe its the same car.

It is the same car on the same day as Johnny Mercury had a partner and they would sometimes take pics at the same time. Grew up at Seekonk and raced there too.

I dunno about that. if you look closely, some of the people are in different spots and the angles of both pictures are different.

  23. They are two different angles, there's no doubt about that, it two different shots. Of course people move around........lol.But I believe same car, just photoshop.

There was a car similar to this that tested years ago @ the Waterford Speedbowl here in CT. I saw it run and as I recall it was red, white and blue (and full-bodied). What I remember for sure is that **** Watson was the driver. From what I've heard, the car was evil and the project was shelved long before it had a chance to be banned. I had pictures of it on my computer years ago, but they're long gone.

Thank you, this picyure is as real as it gets for me. I'm almost sorry that I posted it. I don't do photosop. I don't have the time or interest in disrespecting Richie Evans. I do not have any answers excpt that maybe Mercury took a shot and thn another to be developed in color or just differently. I appreciate the time it took to examine the photos, I love this site and don't appreciate BS.

  26. It's not b.s. and it's not disrespecting you or the photographer. The black car was posted months ago and many people wanted to know about it. Did Richie drive or race a black 61 pinto??? It seems that maybe someone had a little fun with photoshop and made a black Evans car. Your photo just proves that Richie car that day was his Orange car. If you go back through the pages you'd see the questions asked about that car and photo. I haven't had a photo posted that had that many questions from on here, my pm box to facebook. Understand, this is an open discussion if Richie raced a black 61.

Looks to me like the car was sitting still and the photog to two shots a few seconds apart from a slightly different angle. Probably the photog developed one of the photos with some fun in mind. Certainly the same car.

Yep, that has got to be the story.
No question that they are different photos, no question that they were taken at almost exactly the same time from almost exactly the same spot - but not quite.
