I don't recognize the car, but that looks to me like Ed Flemke.

New Britain, You are correct Eddie Flemke, the car was Garuti brothers (Rich & Ray). They had two cars 438 and 439 Eddie drove one, the other was driven by others like George Lombardo, Ray Brown, maybe Jocko I'm not sure. I would guess that picture was taken at Riverside Park. I was still in Soap Box Derby at that time. Denny Z

Yes, I can believe that. Ed was born in '30, and you would have arrived many, many years after that. Many years.

Two interesting things about that photo of 439.
The first is that it must have been a fairly small car; inside it, Ed looks to be bigger than he actually was.
The second is that it's a neat and pretty little car. The last 14 and 28 were clean and well looked-after, but, goodness, were they ungainly, with those tall roofs and big windows.

Post #7243 is that Paul Richardson ? That's the only #97 I can think of.

  25. After spending several days at the Daytona Turkey Run Swap Meet with Bob Judkins :), I just happened to think of something.

If Bob hadn't installed that Pinto body on his #2x modified in the early 70's and started a trend away from using coupes and coaches, what kind of impact would that've had on the tin for street rodders and hot rodders?

I'm convinced oval trackers would've cut up every coupe and coach they could find until they were ALL gone .

Heck, the vintage racing oval trackers are still cutting them up, me included .

    Just a thought (really a brain fart) ;) .

I don't think so, we'd just be building our fabricated bodies to look like rough approximations of coaches and coupes instead of rough approximations of Pintos, Gremlins, and Monzas.

As soon as it became legal to build your own body work, it instantly became more trouble than it was worth to prep and maintain stock sheetmetal.
