Mose Moore in the 82

 

I was at Ascot in 69' and one of the hot dogs was Don "Crash" Cragar. He ran a coupe with a 180 degree flathead until he crashed it. He then put it into a 62 Comet Metieor unibody and the sound was like nothing I had ever heard. The sound of a 180 flathead is just peculiar. Weird. I won a race at San Gabriel aganist the coupes with a street stock type 56 Mercury. A picture of it is earlier in this thread and on the stock car thread. It was so hot the wide tires greased up and they were just a handful. Our smaller harder tires stayed consistant and we ran around them. Shortly after that the coupes went away. There wern't many left and the street Stocks put on a better show with more cars and a lot more action. Even back then I was sad to see coupes running figure eight. I loved and still love street rods and circle track cars and it was a shame to see desireable cars ruined in the eight. Allstarracing

Harmony. I loved that track when I was a kid. We would go there almost every weekend and spend a lot of time in the pits. At that time my father was on the pit crew of the 111.

"The Big D" Is what it was called locally. The stands were on the hill along the front stretch. The only time the car went straight was on the front stretch. The rest of the time they were sideways.

Its been a few years but the last time I when by it you could still see the track and the wooden posts for the seats were still sticking out of the ground on the hill side.

 

As late teenagers in the mid sixties were were very fashion conscious. We put all that aside and started wearing flannel shirts in honor of this guy!

 

These pictures of Harmony and Reading are just too much. Brings back times my father took me to these tracks. And, going to the shops of Piscopo's , Taylor's, Neary are precious memories of a time that can't be replaced. Yeah I feel old and can't believe thats over forty and were did the time go.
