Hello Everyone! Great pictures and stories. I ran across the picture of Maynard Troyer's wreck and someone stated it was at Pocono in 74. I was there when this happened and remember it pretty well and I don't think it was in 1974. I think it was during the ROC's at Pocono and they did not start running there until 1977. I remember going into the pits after the race and the car was under a tarp, totally destroyed. I remember peeking under it to see it. I also remember Maynard being very upset that his watch broke. I was maybe 10 years old at the time and remember thinking wow this guys more upset about his watch then his car!

  2. This reminds me of the T-5 vega wagon modified. I think Leo Cleary may have driven it.

That 9A that Holmberg is driving is a former Len Boehler #3 that Bugs Stevens won the Nascar Modified championship with in 1966. Leon Kempster (Mousey's nephew) bought that car race ready with a big block Chevy and probably Hilborn injectors for $3,500, ran it for most of a year and it ended up with George Meade.

$3,500 for the top car in racing...whew!!!

Looks more like a Pinto Wagon!

  8. That one does look like a pinto but I'm pretty sure there was a T-5 Vega wagon also.

You're information is mostly correct! But the car actually had a fuel injected small block when we bought it. Before the 1970 season NASCAR "outlawed" fuel injection, so we traded the small block for a friend's drag car big block. And, if memory serves me, we only paid $2700 for the car.
And, oh yeah, we just happened to win the first race we entered! The opening night heat and feature, 1970!

The first time I saw Riiska's X (Lil' Stinker) was in 1962 at Lebanon Valley and it was a Flathead Ford with a blower and I think I see a blower under the radiator hose in this picture. The Valley's rules were that you could only run overhead valve V/8's in late model cars and pre war cars had to run flatheads.

The X with Garrison driving led the 100 lap feature that night until the engine failed with about 20 to go. Sounded real neat going down the chutes though!!!

What's left of my old Schaefer calender. For some reason my supermodified calenders fared better.

Sadly, the great Doug Garrison passed away several years ago. I don't know about Martin.
