Dave! You're killin' me with these Langhorne pictures! I'm an absolute Langhorne lunatic. This picture, in particular, I find truely amazing. this was the first lap of the 1967 National Open and that's Merv Treichler in the Bill Sandman coupe, often driven by Ed Ortiz. It took me quite awhile and a lot of investigation to find out who it was that went up in flames that day and now this picture appears here! I captured this incident in my '67 Langhorne video...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8AsawvjHFc

George,I see that speedvids.com has the 1958 Langhorne modified race for sale. Have you seen it? Bruno finished 9th in that race. I was wondering if there's any shots of his car in it.

Sorry that they're not modifieds. A couple pics of my dad's late model at Brewerton Speedway (when it was still pavement), about 1970.

  16. Thanks Bus, I was waiting for Richie to correct me. I had a feeling I just might be wrong. The one shot sure did look to me like it was Roosevelt but what do I know, my mind is going.

Edit. Lou, anyone of the old timers. I had heard that they ran stock cars if not modifieds at Roosevelt for a season or two. Can anyone tell me if this is true or not? I'd have to go back into my old issues of my magazine to see the list of tracks on LI but they are not available at present time.

    BTW, Good Job Pete.

We're moving on to East Windsor Speedway, I was planning on going to a champ car race at Trenton on this day but stopped to see a friend in Trenton and ended up at Eat Windsor instead.

    Hey Emil ...

    Happy Holidays!!!

Don't know about stock cars at Roosevelt Raceway, here on Long Island, NY, but I do know that they ran midgets there .. in the late 30's I think it was.

They tried pari mutual betting, but (flashlight) signals from the pits to the grandstands (signaling who to bet on .... errrr the races were fixed) QUICKLY put a stop to midget racing there.

There was of course both midget & stock car racing at the Roosevely "Stadium", right after WW II and into the 50's (I think) over in Jersey City, NJ. That was promoted by Ed Otto.

Too many Roosevelt facilities back then I think.

  23. you're right. looks to be 1974. I have a similar photo of him at riverside park in mass. I also have a photo of Bob Stefanik in the same car in 1973. the car now resides in my buddies garage,:) ready to be restored. will post pics as soon as I get my scanner up and running again.

Just to let everyone know, the racing world has lost another legend. The COPPER CITY COWBOY Cliff Kotary passed away yesterday 12/27/10. Many of you remember his 6 straight wins at the Syracuse Labor Day race a record that today seems to hard to believe that a driver could do something like that.Cliff was also the flag man at Utica Rome Speedway in the mid 60's when Dick Waterman owned the track.Cliff was a great guy and he and his brother Al built flathead motors that couldn"t be beat in the mid 60"s
