In the upper right is Len Duncan flipping in the Ed Darrell owned SESCO powered midget at Flemington (NJ).

This wreck was recently discussed on the Vintage Cageless Midget thread here on the HAMB.

I grew up right around the corner form Don. Used to go on a paper route w/ my buddy that took us to his front door. I used to love to see the cars on trailers in his driveway. I've donated 3 or 4 cars to his yard and pulled a few parts out of there, as well.

If you notice on the Massey coupe it has headlights.. This was their drag strip car. plus they had several round track cars. The Massey Brothers {Joe. Jack, Jim and Sam }out of Locoust Fork Alabama. 30 miles from Birmingham. They ran a garage/auto parts store. 2 of the brothers would stay at the shop/store and the other two would race..Then the next week they would swap out. They also raced Grand national in 57. The parts store is still open and one of the sons who runs the parts store still races.

What info were you looking for s10ace? he only drove for a short time

  22. How short a time? is he still living? is he into vintage racing? are those the only two cars he has driven on a track? just wondering I have a brother with the same first and last name that lives on the west coast and hasn't ever driven a race car. Maybe a distant relative.

The photos on the left I believe are from Grandview snapped by the late Miles "Red" Kirsch. Besides the racing papers, I believe the photo of the 41 in the air made the national papers. If memory serves me correctly, the 41 was driven by Frank Snyder who I believe lived in or near Hamburg, Pa. Not totally sure, doing it from memory. If you search, there is also video of this crach from a slightly different angle. Not sure if it is on line anywhere but I did see it years back in a "crash & burn" video of local races.

This car killed me when I was younger and in my formative years. As a fellow Rochestarian I saw alot of this and other Troyer cars. I just could not believe that It was a Ford bodied car sponsored by a Ford dealer, Nagle Ford in which the race shop was housed and it still ran the dreaded bbc engine. Ford racing engines must have been pitiful in the 1970's. If these could'nt make it work. Gerald Chamberlin did'nt seem to have any trouble running them though.

Most times a race car engine is chosen on the basis of what speed parts & pieces are available.

There was (and probably still is) more well developed speed equipment available for Chevys, than for Fords.

Most of Maynard Troyer cars were Fords, the 427's that came out of the Ill Fated "Cup" car.

The pintos might have been the start of the chevy's
