The Last Ride. Michael 'Sparky' Belmonte died on July 3rd, 1968 shortly after winning a 100 lap modified race at Plainville Stadium, Plainville, CT.

Thanks. Yeah, they're my own, except for the last set scooped up from the 'vintage modifieds' site. I have a couple of albums on Fotki (katmandu).
That's me (Rich Belmonte) in '78 at Waterford Speedbowl.

  5. Cool thanks for sharing, how many years did you race at Waterford? I hear Ben Dodge might be taking over the track, that is the best thing that could happen to that track! I loved it when I went there last year. Love to see more action at that track. Ben Dodge does a great job with Thompson Speedway and will take care Waterford from rpeorts I'm hearing. Ben will have Waterford weds/Sat. and Thompson thrus/special shows on saturday/sunday like it is now. Plus Stafford is on Fridays! You guys are lucky up there!
    ok photos!

This is a real fun thread, been following it since it started, especially enjoyed the Danbury photos, many of which I haven't seen before, still waiting for some of the cars I got to work on, however I did see one I cut up....Any how,one of my prints was posted, thanks for the nice remarks. Did three auto related rapidograph drawings about 15 years ago, not really for the car guys, 'cause I think, they prefer renderings. Showed 'em around here at various art venues, and made up some prints. They actually sold pretty well, but only did it for about two years, or so, got to be a pain to pack and ship on top of the other stuff you have to do. There is a stock car print, one with midgets and one with dragsters. The dragster one is now in the Garlits Museum, and a copy is also in the NHRA Museum. There are views of all three on my website: waterwheelboatcarts.com (sorry, still haven't figured out how to post a link) Rapidograph drawings don't computerize very well, so it is what it is. Thanks.

The picture of Charlie Vorhees on fire in the 705 was at Flemington Speedway. Charlie is not with us, but a great man. He was a Veitnam hero, but never bragged about it.

My best memory: After a heat, Charlie waited at the entrance gate, I forget who was the reciever, but Charlie's fist was like a jack hammer.

The picture with the 111, Carl Banghart flipping was at Flemington. The 41C is Vince Cannazaro, the Flying Baker from Trenton, NJ.

The 41c was built back in the late 40's early 50's. Vince raced that car at Flemington and East Windsor. Vince raced until he died in that car of a heart attack, he was in his seventies.

My best memmory: At Flemington, it begins to rain, everybody is covering thier engines, Vince laughs, you affraid your car catch cold.
