Nice photo from West Haven, CT. I'm the kid on the far left in the grandstands. Memories...

  5. Wow, isn't that a shot in the arm. Bet you never thought you'd see yourself in a photo on line like that.

I see Jersey mod racer Kevin Eyers recently restored the Ferrante hauler. Here it is with the X3 loaded. Ah, those were the days when this was a top of the line means of getting to the track. The general public could actually see a race car heading to the track instead of a box .

  8. Now that's cool :cool::cool:. Phil's a vintage racer.

And, I think the Ferrillio's(SP?, I have a tough time with those spaghetti bender names) had a crew cab hauler, similar (except for 2 more doors) to the one you posted, that they hauled the #73 Grant King car around on.

I always wanted one of those.

Enclosed race car trailers have hurt the sport. If I was a promoter, I'd pay the highest finishing local racer an extra $200 if he showed up with an open hauler.

  9. amen to closed trailers hurting the sport, if more drivers put pictures or writing on the outside of the trailers it may help a little. But how many times as a kid you'd see a race car or old car being trailer and you pointed it out! It's all in promotions and race cars are just that when there not at the track!

Car was owned by Frank Kelly out of Pa. he also owned a GN and I beleive at some point he owned dirt mods at Flemington. I remember he was a hi roller in his day. I don't remember all the guys that wheeled one of his immaculate machines, but I know Winters drove for a while. I don't remember George Kent driving for him, but that's not to say he didn't. If my memory serves me I don't think he fielded cars for weekly battle; I seem to remember them only going to the big money events.

I was lucky enough to be raised in the small village of East Thompson that's between the speedway and the Mass. and RI.borders any Saturday or Sunday we couldn'y go to the track itself a bunch of us kids would all collect on 1 front lawn and watch the stock cars go bye.In the very early 60s a few were even still being flat towed !Anyone remember building a trailer from an old cable type Joyce Lift and 4 rambler spindles ?lots of those were out here

  17. I flat towed my '56 Chevy race car with my '55 Chevy street car. I made the tow bar out of a '55 Chevy upper control arm. I have a picture of that someplace. I'll have to scan and post it.

AND ........... I remember the trailers you referenced made from the grease rack car lift runners and the Rambler spindles. Those spindles had a flat back to them so ya' could bolt them on to your homemade axle.

I wanted to build one like that. My Dad said no, 'cause it would be too heavy. Turned out he was right. Built what he told me.

I still have the same trailer today that I had back in 1970. Built it like Dad said. It's light and tows like a dream. There must be 200,000+ miles on that thing.

Want an easy way to put disc brakes on a beam axle ?when Rambler/AMC or what ever went to disc brakes they just added a plate to mount the Caliper everything unbolts just like those old Rambler spindles. They used these spindles into the 80S I have a set from a 1st year pacer and a 1980 Spirit.

Eric Leeson of Philadelphia NY owns the car ...It's been some time now since that picture was taken, can't wait to see how the project is moving along...the other pic is from Langhorn's last race in 71...

Oh ! And by the way... I wanted to Thank Bullfather and all the others that have given this tread a life , what a great trip !
I've spent half of Christmas day showing this tread to my uncle Jean Guy .
( he shared the wheel of the Hemi-cuda II with Jim Shampine)
When some pictures poped up , he would launch into some great stories !

    Happy New Year !!!

Hello Richard ! I was at the last langhorne ROC when I was a kid, and man seeing the Hemi Cuda driven by JGC was awesome. He was always one of my favs as a young man. I saw a thread somewhere that you are restoring the Hemi Cuda, any progress pics? We'd all love to see how this legendary mod is coming back to life.

I can remember the last race at Langhorne. I remember the 69 coming in the pits, a crew man looking at the right rear tire, my father said it looks half flat, the car went back out, a few laps later , spun out because or a right rear flat.

I saw Jean Guy at Devil's Bowl in Vt. a few times. I also loved that pic of Jr. Hanley in a MOD!! He was my favorite driver on the ACT Tour when it was a Pro Stock division. Love these pics!!! Neal
