Not a knome on the roof, It's Casper the friendly Ghost. All of us kids had red shirts with Casper on them and cow bells to ring when he won. The car won lots of races at Sunshine Speedway. I'll try to scan a picture from my wall of the next Trolly, You only thought this sedan was weird. Ted

Does anyone have any pictures of a bright yellow number69 numbers were blue and had a rubber duck mounted on the roof ? This car ran with Freddy Desaro , Ron Bouchard, Bugsy Stevens, Jeff Bodine, Fuzzy Bear. It ran at Waterford Speedbowl, Thompson and once or twice at Pocanoe. This car was driven by Nels Wholstrom. He ran in the 1970s. I can remember the races from about 73 and up. If i remember right Ned Jarrett was the announcer or at least associated with Thompson Speedway at the time this car was ran. Please help !

  4. Pocanoe??????? Wait your right, I remember all the rain outs and rain delays as a kid at Pocono! lol We needed a canoe to get out of that place a few times!

A buddy of mine here in Tampa (and fellow HAMBer) told me it was called the Toonerville Trolley. It was owned by the guy that started the Zepherhills Swap Meet, Bud Josey, and that it was considered nearly unbeatable in it's day. Rumor is that he cut it up and buried it when it was through racing. I think that it mainly ran at Sunshine Speedway in St. Petersburg. Gary

  13. You sure it wasn't buried in Giant Stadium along with Jimmy Hoffa in the end zone??? lol

Interesting paint job... Since cars were not using "wraps" yet, how was the side of the car painted? Did the signpainter patiently map out the checkerboard, then fill it in by hand with his lettering enamel? And look at the close-up of the red numerals -- the blue parts of the checkerboard are bleeding through the red paint...

There is a photo of Nels Wohlstrom in the 69 in the Dave Dykes "Racing Through Time" website. Look at the archives, I think for April 15. Nels bought the car in 1974. It was originally built by Mike Beebe in 1972 and was probably the most cut up Pinto around. Nels had a Tasmanian Devil painted on the passenger side. I was on the crew in 1975 running Waterford and Thompson.
We started building a new 2x3 chassis Monza-bodied car in '76 but I lost interest and left the crew in February. Largely due to meeting my future wife (32 years this August) but also due to working on the car seven days a week during the season. For hundreds of hour of labor, I didn't get even a $4 pit pass.
I can give you quite a bit of the construction details of either car if you are interested.
    Regards,
    Chris

This car, driven by Bill Strosahl in 1969 and Graeme Bolia in 1970-1972, still exists and has been rescued. :D
