Well surgery#2 is over and I'm home after a week in the hospital. There were some complications with the surgery and my healing time is going to take longer than I was told to expect before. The 3hr surgery ended up taking 7hrs. Mostly for precaution so I don't end up infected and have to relive the how thing. I have another surgery pending in 2 months or so.
Keep your head up. That's alot to go through. I love reading your thread though. I am going to get back on my 60 shortly. I got sidetracked with another car of course
Don't push it Zeke...take it slow, there'll be plenty of time to work on the '60 when your healthy...glad to hear it went OK... R-
Once I'm able to actually pick things up in a week or so, I have some light duty work I can do. Mostly organizing and parts clean up. Busy work mostly to get me outside. I'll heal faster if I'm not sitting on my *** believe it or not. I'm going to spend time going back over the 59-60 builds for ideas and how-tos.
Spent some time today getting the driver side valance that Roger sent me mostly stripped and beat somewhat into shape. Needs a bit more smacking with a hammer to smooth things out some, Welding the two cracks I found, and a skim coat of filler and some paint. For now I'm worn out. Thankfully there were only a couple dents. Still debating on cutting and welding this bit. I need to see if I can get this better than I've got it at this point. As soon as I get a new welding helmet I'll get started on the other side.
I like that, but not the look I'm after. I'll more than likely run the stock grill for a while until I can make a tube grill.
Zeke...I found the other half of that valance...you want it...??? You got the good one looking good... R-
Hell yes! My other half is 72% bondo and gl***. I was going to have to fab up a steel bit to finish it. That would save quite a bit of time and flustration. DaTinman I'm not.
Spent some time with family last weekend and got to see DaTinman's new digs. picked up a few tips about bashing tin into a shape somewhat where I'd like it to be. Damn he makes it look easy. I get a text from Mama Z saying a got another package from Aurora ColoRODo Inside the package is part two of the p***enger side front valance looking a bit banged up but still in better shape than what I had. Yeah this is gonna be fun alright. Now to find my hammers.
You've got some sac to go this deep & bring this one back to life. What an inspiration!! Best to your health & keep us posted on the progress - I'm watch'n
Man, IF you can make something from that beat up, rusted up tin, you're a better body man than I... (I kept the good stuff for myself and my '60 Chevy...!!!) R-
I'm gonna give it a go Roger. I have nothing but time to lose on this, so **** it why not. The Illinoize Vagabonds are gonna give me a hand once I get moved up there next year. It'll be nice to get out of the elements and around friends for a change
Thanks! Seriously as often as I've thought about giving up on it I find a reason not to. I think being a bit crazy helps.
That entire front clip is still sitting here, waiting for you when you get here...but it's missing the bumper and lower valances...!!! "The longest journey begins with the smallest of steps." R-
Bumper I have and I'll have the valances done by then. Hope to get it before fall is over. I got to get caught up on bills since I'm not collecting a paycheck and I'm waiting on the VA to get my Temp disability approved. Back to work next week at least.
And the hammering has begun. I'm gonna have to flatten most of the bigger piece just to get the dents out. Small piece is soaking in the mol***es bath.
If I wasn't already running my '60 Merc grill I would be putting on the Caddy grill. Hhhuumm? I guess I still can, that is one Kool '60. Sorry to hijack the post, Good luck with the project.
