Mine doesn't have the eye so I can't help ya there. I do have the manuals, if I can find them I will look it up and see what it says about that.

Been a long time since I had one laying around, but I've junk yarded a few in my time and I vaguely remember a 12" to 18" long pigtail with a plug. Unplug it from the rest of it's harness and feed it out the hole in the dash as you are removing the head unit after unbolting it. There also should be a "control" box roughly five inches square and three inches high out under the hood somewhere. You can always start tracing wires back from that underhood "black" box (they were black, actually) failing something simpler, but I don't think you'll find it necessary.

The control is in the left kick panel, eye control, and dimmer all must be compatable

Just checked the '58 Pontiac factory manual and it too, shows the control box or amplifier unit mounted in the driver side cowl behind the kick panel, so I guess the ones I junkyarded were from earlier cars. Didn't mean to mislead anyone, so much for the accuracy of 40 year old memories.
Good point about the compatibility issues, but it sounded like his was complete.
