Cutting up tin is the most fun for me. I have a lot more finish work to go but can now see how it will look in this little sedan. I used the gauge surround from one dash and the center from two more dashes. Most of the times it has been done the middle 9 inches or so is thrown out and the two halfs s***ched back togather. I chose to use the two middles for the ends. I now have two ash trays and two radio openings. I think I will run two ash trays(need one if someone has an extra) and the radio on the p*** side. I will post some pictures when I get everything one color and retrimmed. I enjoy seeing the rough out work the most here on the hamb so I thought I should share these shots. Thanks Kirk (craftyb here on the hamb) for motivating me to work on my long forgotten hot rod project. I have been messin with this sedan for almost 20 years and have not heard it run yet. If Kirk keeps kicking me along I may drive it this year! Steve
tman.......... The plan for the top is to place a 1 inch wide strap under the front dash lip and plug weld the trimmed dash to it. Then make risers under the dash from the original 32 dash holes and weld to the strap. That way the top should be about flush and it will unbolt from the car. Steve
Steve!! nice work on the dash...It looks sweet centered up for sure and you better have it welded up and done by the next time I come over...were drivin to the Gilmore show!!!!! HAHA Crafty
Heres a few progress shots. Filling the voids really helps the look I think. 2 ash trays and no spot for a radio. The big vent under the speedo is one of the chevy factory air vents taken from the outboard part of dash. Takes the place of where the column was. Its heavy die cast. 3 inch opening in it so a bit too small for a tach. I plan to run the stock harness with ignition and stock switches. I also plan to run the Impala column/wheel with the stock shifter. Time will tell how that works out. I really had my doubts when I started this dash. I feared the centering may goof up the look. Henry designed these cars to have the gauge cluster in the middle right? Thanks for the positive comments. Negative comments welcome too! Steve
59-60 chevy air conditioning parts do well on ebay. that's where I'd put those vents and anything else ***ociated with the AC.
The Lowone is looking good Steve I can't wait to see her on the road. How about some full shot of her
for you John old pictures full fendered picture is about 20 years ago. No recent pics yet with the BBC installed. This little car is so much fun to work on. Steve
I call this sedan little for a good reason. It not very big when compared to stockers. I still fit in it OK though thanks to a drop floor. Steve
Great idea. It is very cool to see it actually put into practice. Nice job! Reminds me of this design I drew. A H.A.M.B. member in New Zealand is building it.
coming from a person who looks at a 59 dash about every day,i must say that is about the best use for one i have ever seen. great design,for-thought. you do know the have a radio block off plate for those things don't you? i have to say that is outstanding. good job!!!!!!
