Hey Cool Panel. Good deal! I got a 62 shortstep pu, a 66 shortstep, and trying to finish up the parts list on a 63 shortfleet... I love these trucks, but never had a panel. Enjoy.
Very cool. Got another panel on the board. Welcome to the club. Not very many panels out there on the road anymore. Congrats. Time to slam that thing to the ground.
I don't want to slam it, because I want to use it to pull a 18' car trailer. I would like to put different rims on it, though. I'd like to convert to 5 lug and put some of the camero rally wheels on it, or some that are more OEM. Any ideas? Is it very hard to convert to the 5 lugs on these?
Don't chop it, you probally were not going to anyways but I thought I would just say it for the record Oh yeah and put some fake speed shop sign on it, I always think thats really cool!
Don't hate me but chop chop chop cut cut cut chop chop cut. tee hee chop chop chop cut cut chop. I love panels always have always will. I have wanted one since I was 12. If you chop it you can put a fake customs shop logo on the sides "Little Chopped Top of Horrors, Customs and Speed Equipment"
The conversion to five lug would be cheapest & maybe "easiest" if done by going to the 5" 5 bolt circle as is the case on the later GM trucks. There are some guys over at chevytalk.com in the 60-66 Chevy truck group that have the smaller 4 3/4 pattern, but I have no experience with that conversion. The group's moderator, Dennis has a panel and has made many of these upgrades already. Might be worth a look for you. I guess it depends if you want to keep the torsion bar front suspension or switch to a later 1/2 ton truck type set-up. If you play your cards right and grab a mid late 70's donor then you get the five lug disc brake front clip that will work with some minor effort. The rear end could be set-up by transferring the brackets for the trailing arms and panhard bar from your panels rear end to the later housing. You will have a much broader range of gear selection with the newer 12 bolt housing too. I was limited to a mid 3 to 1 gear set when I checked into setting up the 62's stock rear. The 70's 5 lug spindle with the 1.25" rotors will accept the aftermarket 6-lug rotor too for those wishing to stay 6 lugs. Any way you shake it that's a cool ass panel and I'd love to have the hood if you ever were to part with it. GOOD LUCK.
