  1. Thanks, Jeff!!! Stay tuned, I'm really gonna make that gas tank disappear. :p

Which segway's right into my next update.

    --

It's the "Bumper? I hardly know her!" Update.

Picked this up today and the price was right. Its polishing up into a nice driver quality bumper, so I'm not feeling raped.

That's the first polish and it already looks better than the grille of the truck. Gonna try to beat out that dent a little.

I'm shootin' for something like this idea which I totally didn't steal from the internet :p :

    309123396_10160216134579031_9086543597709171629_n.jpeg

Now all I have to do is figure out how I'm gonna mount the damned thing.

I need go to lubricate my "little grey cells" a bit with some Jameson and maybe a beer, then hit the drawing board.:D

    Behave, ya filthy animals! :p
    Later.

  2. I planned on using some 2' x 1/4" steel strap to make my rear bumper mounts, perhaps a bit overkill but hey, I had the stuff laying around. I'll be using the hammer, heat, bend, repeat method until it's what I want it to be lol.

Best of luck my friend! Keep us posted!

  3. Truth be told, I wish I had seen this pic about a year ago... I'd probably be a few days ahead.

That back end came out looking great.

Is the bumper a factory piece?

  6. I found this by accident and I'm sure glad I did. I will say this, he narrowed that bumper about 2+ inches. I don't have chrome money so, the hang-over on each end is going to stay but it doesn't hang over as much as then ends of the front bumper, so I'm gonna leave it alone.

    It's Ford, but it's for a '64 and up F-100.

It's the "Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you a monkey with two asses" Update.

Pretty straightforward install once I built the brackets.

Worst part was cutting slits in the rear valance.

    And the finished product:

Just waiting on license plate lights. This was a neat little side quest and I'm happy with how it turned out.

Now I just need to wetsand and buff that orange-peely tailgate.

    Cheers.

  10. Thanks, guys!

And, Jeff. You wanna hear something weird? I keep every scrap of metal I cut off of this truck incase I wanna weld it back in. But, there may come a day where I take you up on that offer. ;)

    Okay... it's time for the...

Don't Cut Through the Clear, you Twat Update:

The wet-sanding is going well.

    More to come.

That's all I've got, fellas. Back to day drinkin'. ;)

Yup, I put the finishing touches on it today. I got a deal on some really nice quality license plate lights that fit perfectly. They are the kind of futuristic light emitters that dare not speak their name. ;)

    The ass end is bright!!!

There'll be no excuses for not seeing the back of my truck at night when Karen bashes into it with her Escalade whist playing on her phone.

That's it. That's the update. Short and sweet.

    Have a great day, y'all!

  13. Little "cut-n-buff" update.

Buffed out pretty good for having been painted in a cave.
Calling the ass DONE! Is it perfect? No. But, it damn sure looks better than it did back there.

I used a 72 Torino pan to get rid of the fogly original on my 57. Like that bumper idea. 20220515_195400.jpg

  16. I like this truck too. Listen, I'd like more info on your bed cover if you don't mind. If you have any pics or anything you could PM me or links to a thread, that'd be great.

I have an idea what I want, but it's always good to see how others figured things out.

I'd like something on the order of this only not in white:

I know mine will have to be segmented into two parts with a hinge in the middle but I think it will add a nice detail to the truck that it's missing.

It's a fiberglass lid over a aluminum structure. I had a shop out of Kentucky build it in the 90's I sent them my measurements and color of the vynle and they shipped it to me. It hinges in the back and has gas struts. I forget the name of the shop. You can build one just as easy though.

  18. Cool. Yeah, I've got a few ideas stewing for the bed cover. We'll see. However, now it's time for...

    The "Bring the Bling" Update!

I've had something cooked up in my head for a while now, so this morning, I got a wild hare up my ass and swung by Lowe's and picked up three pieces of 1" x 4' aluminum strip.

    20221024_134841.jpg

Had to bend a dog leg and a bit of a point in them...

    20221024_134937.jpg

Started hand wet-sanding with progressive grits from 600 to 2000...

    20221024_145842.jpg

Got out the old polisher and went to town on them.

    20221024_145848.jpg

Used 1" 3M double-faced tape and stuck them on right over the top of the factory grille bars.

    20221024_154835.jpg

    20221024_154819.jpg

I'm thinking I'm going to make a small polished piece to go on the outside of the parking light just to finish it off.

    20221024_165618.jpg

I dig it for now and no harm, no foul if I turn sour toward them as I can just whip them off.

So... this is how I spent my afternoon. I need to get out more. :p

That thing is looking so much better than when you first posted it. Good job.

Makes me regret the 65 Unibody I passed on years ago for $500. I just didn't have it at the time.

Hahaha. I was wondering how long it would take for someone to figure that out. You're quite astute, my friend.

I hate when people use their thumbs in the shot to cover their plate, or pixelate their number plate in photos of their vehicle for online security reasons. so, I try to do it so it doesn't detract from the quality of the pic.

It's an old habit. I mean, I know it's not like I don't drive this thing on the open street where everyone can see the plate, but I've been doing it for years.

So, I figure if I'm going to go to the trouble of pixelating or covering my number plate, I may as well have some fun with it and take the time to rearrange the numbers so the shot doesn't look weird with a big pixelated scab on it.

What can I say? I like to fuck with people, so... I do it mostly for fun. :p

Anyway now, ladies and gentlemen, it's time for...

"The How Much More Of This Do We Have To Put Up With From This Idiot?" Update

After I changed the grille, I was left with a red void on either side of the turn signals/parking lights. To me, it looked unfinished.

Started thrashing around and drawing up some ideas for how to fix this.

So, I found a scrap piece of aluminum ("aluminium" for you, @Mart :p) I had laying around, transferred the design I had cooked up onto it, and started cutting.

    20221026_142318.jpg

Here's the cut out bits after initial cleanup and before the polish.

    20221026_133132.jpg

And here's some shots going through every progressive sanding I did to polish them.

    20221026_133640.jpg

    20221026_134313.jpg

    20221026_134728.jpg

    And then the polish.

    The first polish.

    20221026_135951.jpg

    Second polish.

    20221026_140003.jpg

After a third and fourth polish, I stuck them on the truck.

    20221026_140934.jpg

    20221027_124814 copy.jpg

Just a dumb little detail that was bugging me. And, like everything I else I do... are they perfect? No. But they make my brain itch less than it did before I installed them.

    Have a great weekend, gang!

    Cheers
