Well, bought a 60 Thunderbird from a guy in Arizona, a friend went and checked it out beforehand and said it was good. Arrived yesterday via transport and after a ride around the block, smoke under hood.
Further investigation appears transmission fluid (?) dropping on manifold. Smoke coming from under engine on passenger side. Transmission Fluid is also pooling up on passenger wheel well in firewall.
Haven't taken a look up under there yet.
Of course previous owner said it 'drove well' no issues.
Wonder if something was jarred loose in transport?
    What say ye?

  2. A bad transmission modulator will allow the fluid to be sucked up into the intake manifold. If the hose is rotted at the vacuum port, it could spit it out onto the manifold.

Normally it burns in the manifold and you have a smoke screen out the exhaust, but it will have the distinct transmission fluid smell to it.

why you should check out a car yourself before you buy it. take the time and clean engine and trans. check/change all fluids, complete tune-up, etc. unless car was completely restored expect to put time and $ into it.

Maybe something rubbed a hole in one of the trans cooler lines?

just part of the game, find the source of the leak.. eliminate the issues one at a time. The HAMB has gotten me through many a rough patch but you need to take a look under there first.

  6. Good call. Something may have happened to a hose connection in the loading-unloading process, or it cracked a fitting.
