Made from 1959-69. There was bigger 4.5 Liter version put in the Daimler Conquest limo, which is even rarer. A friend told me about this one. They are not easy to find but you may luck across one. Be prepared to fix corrosion in the water p***ages in the aluminum heads. They only make about 140hp stock.

many many years ago this car was in north Texas and I went with my dad to see it. The man who owned it at the time is a very intelligent machinist who likes to keep to himself but he was more than willing to explain the car to me when I was a young boy. The interior was unfinished but the car itself was awesome. Being the unique vehicle it was it always stuck with me. I found a more recent ad for the car for sale in Illinois, it looks as if the interior has been done sometime in the last 20 years..not exactly the style I would have gone with but glad to see the car survives FEEB639D-A1E1-4E4A-A2B2-FE3140F73607.jpeg http://cl***iccardb.com/studebaker/400310-1953-studebaker-custom.html

I think that is a different Stude. There was one around here that belonged to a member of Sage Brush chapter of the Studebaker Drivers Club.

OT but what was the thinking behind the white spun gl*** that was used under the show cars back in the day? I never liked that look.

I think it was to make them look "Dreamey" and lower. Possibly to let everyone know it was a "Show Car".

    HARTMAN CORVAIR MYSTERY.jpg

Here's a mysterious one. Built in the mid/late sixties, it was chopped, shiny red with Cragar's and a small block (eventually a big block up front). The details on this are spotty but it somehow survived...

@loudbang from what I remember on the Stude the story was that the original owner was a young guy and his parents wouldn’t help him get a pickup to haul his motorcycle. So he proceeded to cut the back half of the Studebaker off so he could wheel his motorcycle in there. I think the owner I spoke to told me the car was not heavily customized and it wasn’t originally yellow. Also the fins were a later addition. One part of the story was at some time while the car was yellow, it had an awful green and yellow interior.

Disclaimer-this is me trying to remember a couple hours conversation from 20 years ago, I cannot guarantee the accuracy of any of this lol

P.S.- here’s an original photo that was from the for sale ad. Note the side exit exhaust and the louvered hood

Good info I didn't realize they were the same car. I have posted that photo in HAMB somewhere.
