My old '71 Bedford (Based on ChevyVan?) with SBC & T400. 12 bolt R/E. Only came with 6cyl engines. That's a local '78 Ford sedan grill with rectangular headlamps, fits perfectly.

  5. This one is a bit earlier than '61. Not production, but it's cool and it shows they were being dreamed up.....

  6. I've seen some pics of the Bedford vans, were they the same size as full size Chevy Vans? That one looks smaller.

Roughly the same size I thought as a SWB G10 Chevy and as aerodynamic as a cinder block. Could be slightly smaller overall in size. As V8 Chevy vans weren't imported RHD all we had were the underpowered English Bedfords.

Good to see an Aussie van in this thread. Are there any still on the road here these days?

Look at the great vintage drag shots on the JJ and the Hamb, then look in the background. Support and push trucks vans and wagons have always been a big part of the drag scene. Essential gear, if not the main focus. That makes them tangentially traditional, I believe. My avatar shows my A100 used as a push vehicle at Vargo drags in Pa in the 60s. It's more hot rod than custom.

Custom 70s vans? Very cool but a little off-topic on here. Unfortunately there is no van or 70s-custom related site that even comes close to the quality and depth of the JJ. Very different mindset. So I appreciate the open mind toward early vans and as long as it doesn't dominate the traditional hot rod content, it's fun and harmless. Thanks for letting it slide. Lots of folks have multiple intersecting interests on here and its cool to hear about them once in a while.

Wow! Seriously trippy artwork. A shrink could make a career of analyzing the artist!

Thanks Slammed, but that one is staying /6 auto until my 100 is done. The 100 IS getting a rumpity 360, built trans and 3500 converter, and a set of steep gears.
There is a picture of it back on page 24, post #468
I've stripped it, done a bunch of metal work to get it back to where it started, and still have a bit more to go (roof, rear wheelwells, LF bottom corner) before blasting, priming and blocking for paint.

  20. I am looking for options/ideas regarding front tires for my rig, something with the right profile and style. I am leaning more to a bias, poly glas type profile/look but in a radial tire, more of a muscle feel or lowrider 560/15 look than typical white letter tires. I am going to get a new set of T/A's for the rear and more or less want to keep it just as it looks now but with more appropriate shaped front rubber. Any tips or advice on finding tires would be appreciated.

I have so far purchased a set of Porter mufflers, new windshield seal, a couple gallons of HRF "Vanilla Shake" paint and a nice chrome rear bumper, just working on finding a paint/body guy at the moment.
