Projects 61-64 F100 Mild Custom/Inspiration

  1. I’d rock a step side all day long.
Floors are generally easier than roofs.
It doesn’t have to be perfect to be fun

From what I see so far, the 1964 is the "parts truck".
What is the condition of the green truck's cab supports? Flat Floors are no big deal, but those cab supports are. They are toast on the 64. What about the 61?
When the front cab supports go the truck starts to collapse. The front of the cab drops and opens a gap between the front of the cowl and the top of the front fender. This places all the cab weight upon the steering column. This can cause sever wear on the steering column and shift mechanism.
New cab supports have been reproduced but if the 61's are intact or repairable. That's the way to go.
You may not have noticed this but the 64 has a higher roof. They share doors, windows and windshields but the 61-63s had a lower flatter cab roof above the drip rails.
These are really simple trucks, but they do have their quirks.
I would not worry about any mods right now. I would just get the green one going.

On the green truck: Front cab supports are toast, drivers side is basically non-existent. So I will be looking at the floor braces/supports, as well as pans. the driver side rocker/step also needs addressed. Good info on the cab collapsing, could explain why everything seems slightly misaligned and the hood doesn't latch. The only real "mods" I have looked at are suspension, and that is more because I don't trust what is there than because it is a priority itself. I figure If I need to buy springs anyway, might as well plan for the future.

As far as getting the green one going it "ran when parked"..... It does turn over but the transmission doesn't shift, and I was told that "first gear is stripped and the synchros are shot". I cannot read the tag on the trans to figure out what I need as far as rebuild goes, but the case is dated 63 based on the stamp number C3AR 7006-E. The 4 speed in the tan truck is supposedly good, but I don't think I want to mess with the 3/tree 4/floor conversion just to avoid the rebuild of the 3 speed?

A friend of mine just finished this little Uni-body. Lowered, Mercury grill, chrome wheels, and some metal flake.
