Dear Members I'm in the process or reinstalling the engine in my 61 Bonneville. It is obvious, the transmission has been removed several times over the past 51 years. My question is, did Pontiac use a lock washer or crimp locking nut to bolt the Torous/hydraulic coupler to the engine flex plate. Happy Holiday's Gmil60
what i can see on my engines ther is no lock washer check so bolts not go into block on back of crank if there was a washer like newer engines it will lock engine or crack block.i use lock***e when im not sure.not easy to put engine together when you get them in boxes and people are sure that everything is there and marked ..
On my 57 it seems like they used an all-metal lock nut. I was able to find replacements at my local hardware store. I used no washers or lock***e.
I was putting the head back on a slant 6 one time and I'm looking all over the place and my Dad said; "What are you looking for?" and I said; "A lock washer I dropped." and he said; "Are you going to leave that bolt loose?" and I said "NO!" and to that he said; "Then what the hell you need a lock washer for?"
As best as I can remember they had no lock washers, but it's been a while since I had a '61 with an automatic transmission.
