I convinced my buddy who knows nothing about cars to buy a 61 falcon that is in really nice shape. It has a 170 straight six with a auto trans. The flywheel has some bad spots on it and needs to be replaced so I looked through a couple catalogs and then went down to napa and the ordered me a ring gear for it but I pulled the starter again and noticed it dosn't look like there is a bolted in ring gear but a welded on gear and I havn't found a company that sells whole flywheels for a 61 falcon does anybody have any ideas. Well any help will be appreciated when I get home from work next weekend to fix the car.
First, it's a "Flexplate" not a flywheel since it's Automatic. Second, try Joblot Automotive in NY. www.joblotauto.com Goodluck
The flexplate on those is a flat little plate. No teeth. The teeth are part of the torque converter. The ring is possibly available seperately.
The ring gear is part of the torque converter on those engines. I have a '61 Falcon torque converter sitting in the garage in good shape (except for surface rust on the snout that fits in the trans) if you want it. I'll sell it to you for $20 plus shipping(should be around $25) if you want. PM me if you're interested and I can send you pics. If you're not in a hurry I'll have another torque converter w/o the surface rust in 2-3weeks when I pull the drivetrain out of my Comet and I'll sell you that one for $25.
