Well I talked him into selling the Starliner instead of using it for a Destruction Derby car. He thinks he can get $3000 for it from someone in Idaho, but we'll see if that goes or not. Anyway it's saved. Here are some photos.
Nice save....Is that someone Mr. Huff? If so he will pay the 3,000.00 Do you know if this is actually for sale and where it is.
Good work. It's hard to believe that anyone would even think about smashing the **** out of that car. So, you didn't actually buy the car, you talked him out of smashing it? That's a good plan, he'll end up making some money on that car and he won't be so inclined to smash up anything else that's good anymore. If that car were here in Wisconsin, being a California car with minimal rust, it'd bring 3K all day long. Good to see that one's not going to get wasted.
That guy's a damned idiot for even considering smashing that thing up. Jeez, it's over 40 years old, have a little respect.
Yes it is for sale. It is in Northern California, McArthur to be exact. That's about 75 milles east of Redding. If the sale falls through on the Idaho thing I'll post it for sale here for him. Or maybe outbid the Idahoian? Not running, don't know why and they say the upholstry is shot but there, said it looks like something out of a T-Bird may not be original.
Yeah-what the hell? A straight bodied 60's two-door as a derby car? This guy collects 70's muscle cars, huh? Man-I wish I had the cash...
Find a big 429, a set of cast center mags, cover it with vintage decals and of course a 4 speed- uuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I have to stop thinking about these things
Hell, in 1965 I took a perfectly good 1954 Lincoln 2dr Ht to the demo derby. It was abandoned at the garage I worked at and my boss gave it to me. Kids will do dumb things if given the chance !!! That was one of many for me.
thats the equivilent of taking a 95 lincoln to a derby, not what i would do, but not as bad as taking a 45 year old starliner in good conditon. No one would stop ya.
I know a few guys over at Ford muscle that would love to get their hands on that! I'm with Graverobber except fot the stickers a 429 and a 4spd would be ideal.
I can sleep better at night now, just knowing you saved it! That car looks good, cars like that are tough to come by, in my area. Even though I like 60s best, I think most people like the 61 better, due to the less offensive rear fins.I think these cars make a good looking mild custom, they already look sort of custom anyway, with the roof line and fins. I just cant see how anyone would consider that a derby car. Good work, thanks again.
OMG... that ****a is beautiful! I live right next door to a "derby" guy... I watch him strip and smash 60's fords all the time, most are more-doors and wagons, but it still makes my heart ache a little. Now that I've gotten to know him though, he's "donating" some of the good parts he takes off to me... gonna have a ****load of stuf to sell soon! It's too bad the 60's cars were built so well, that's the ones they like to use... tough as nails.
JESUS I LOVE THOSE CARS !! Ive always wanted one. $ 3000.00 is a total steal. That car screams multicarbed FE. Anything else would be a shame. FEDER
The '60-'64 Ford Galaxies are a**** the top 5 Demo derby cars of all time as are the '58-'60 T-Birds. Just check the IDDA message board and you'll see how many of 'em are still being built. While I think using a Starliner is a bit much, demolition derby is a legit sport, the serious guys put a TON of work into their cars and there's money to be won. BTW, I know of one '64 Ford from Ellis, KS that didn't get derbied....mine I bought it from a dealer out there through eBay and had it shipped back to Ohio. Jan
Glad you managed to save it - the '61 'liner is my favorite big '60s Ford & I'll own one someday... A buddy of mine has a beautiful one with a 427 SOHC in it - too bad it's show-car pretty & he rarely drives it...wish I had that!!
