  3. Hey Minnesotan,. when are you driving? Doing the trip from Rapid City solo can be a drag.

There is a crew from MN driving out. I am flying out with my son for the opening weekend. I will only be there Friday the 9th to Sunday the 12th I hope to see some good runs. None of our group has ever been there. It should be a good time.

  5. First weekend's the best IMO, you wont be dissapointed! ;)

Thanks, is there much going on Friday? We will be there all day and a few people told me nothing starts till sat. My son is 7 and turns 8 on Aug 13th, this trip is part his birthday and part of fulfilling my fathers bucket list. He is 1 of the 4 guys road triping out.

My son thinks your truck is the bom!
    :D Tim

  7. They tech on thurs and fri. I think that is a good time to check out all the cars and crews. Fir night at "the Bend" can be fun too.

If you can sort out the wheel spin in 4th I think you'll do it man! Sheesh, I think I'd have to clean my shorts out after that pass!

How tall are the tires Tim? My Y block went 140 on the chassis dyno, 129 at the same RPM on the salt in the one mile. I was running 2:25 - 70 15 V rated Goodyears.

  10. Don, these #s are without the typical 10% traction loss figured in but it sounds good when you hear it. It's just the next progression in ratios, if Jake can pull this one then 3.50 is next but we have to wait an see. ;)

  11. Yes, you will have a blast on Friday. That will be a great time to watch tech and the staging area as well as cruise the pits when they are actually full. When the racing starts the pits can become a ghost town with everyone in line waiting.

  12. El Mirage in two weeks. New engine is going in this afternoon. Just taking a break for lunch and I'm on it. Will post what happens tonight. ;):D

  13. And a good Wix filter!

  14. OK! New engine is in and tomorrow will be break-in time. I forgot how hard it is to seperate the engine from the trans. with the scatter shield in place. Oh well, it's done now.

BTW. To Carl, Trent, Lance and anyone else that knew about the "Clutch problem" I do believe this was the cause of it. P.O.S. in a brand new slave.

Sounds Great!!! New here to H.A. M. B. Starting a build on a 64 F-100 to cruise around Griffin/ South Metro ATL with. Curious about bellhousing setup to run T-5 behind the Y block. I know you are busy building toward the 200 club, but any info you had time to pass along would be appreciated.

  21. First off, if you're new here it's good to make an intro. Next, the question at hand, it's pretty easy to do if you are handy with tools and/or have a machine shop that will work with you. If you just want to pay someone to do it for you contact John Mummert he sells converted bells and adaptors. http://ford-y-block.com/

Great build. That one piece body is one of my favorites from the era. Good luck in the traps.

  24. First off you need to make an intro, just the way it's done here. Next if you don't want to read everything hit "last page". If it's your first time to the thread you wouldn't know what was going on if I started a new one.

First pass the engine felt GREAT! and sounded great too. But when I got the timing slip the #s were the same as last year. [IMG] I have a higher gear ratio and went through the traps at the same rpm as last year, should have been close to 140 but was 126. Traction problems again! We lined up for our second pass late in the day with no other changes than a little less air in the tires, we had a bit of trouble with the tow vehicle on the way down that had to be fixed so we got a lat start but that's another story, when we got to the front of the line they shut down for the day. No problem that means we get first run in the morning on a fresh course. [IMG] Sunday morning we lined up after the drivers meeting, warmed up the engine, cleared for the course and we were off! The lake bed wasn't the best but since it wasn't tore up bay a bunch of cars before me we got 131 mph! not bad but still we want to go faster, duh. A third and final run is set up for this time I decided to run with the front half of the bed cover off, Charlie will like that. Well, with that the only change and out on a soft tore up lake bed again we managed 132 mph. I think we are on the right track.
I need to add some weight to the back again and there is still some tuning to be done to the engine, timing and mixture but I think we can manage 140 before the year is out and 150 may just happen at Bonneville. The truck is still accelerating at the end on the 1.3 miles at Elmo.

We made the t-shirt and poster too! ;)

I like that you removed the front part of the bed cover.
