I’m collecting parts to convert an automatic to a T10 into my 62 Galaxie 500 (bench seat). Do I need to modify the floorboard to install the factory linkage and shift boot? I picked up a part on eBay that might be needed but I’m told the only model that needs a modification of the floorboard is the XL. Is that correct? I need an answer right away as I can return the part if not needed.

  2. While the floorboard does not need modification, it will require a "pan" that fit on the side of the transmission tunnel for the shift linkage and shifter to fit. It was a sloped pan with a flat top for the shifter boot.

Thanks lostone. I bought that but a friend told me that was only used on XL’s with the console. I was going to send it back but, as per your advice I will keep it. I’ll take some pictures when we get around to installing the new engine and trans.
