hey need some help....looking to pull the 352 FE out of my 62 monterey and want to throw in a temp motor so i can at least drive the car during the summer while i rebuild and detail the orginal 352 FE...my question is what motor can i drop in that will bolt up and if i can do it will i need to change motor mounts etc...if i can find a early 80's ford engine to chuck in for the summer that would be great. It's all about cruising. thanks
hey, any fe will fit, if your useing a truck eng. there is the popular 360 fe used from 67 to like 76, pretty cheap, so are some 390 ( but they are starting to rod them more so prices are on the rise.) had a 63 500 xl fastback and was always swaping out engs. would buy whole cars for a 390. fe's have there own bolt pattern on the trans, if you change eng. family you will have to get an adapterd or trans. fe's are 352,406,427,390,360,428 mecs added some displacement to there's but if you look at the intake at the valve cover fe's are the only one to have that set up. hope that helps, tom
Also, if you find a mid to late 60's and early 70's Ford/Mercury Fullsize 4-door, it may have a 352 or 390 in it (428 if you're really lucky). Depending on the condition, they can usually be found pretty cheap. Pull the engine out, use it for a while, drop it back in and re-sell it! Malcolm Also, I've seen running 352's and 390's on Craigslist for good prices...
i used a 302 and a few 289s in my 62, i think i used 63/4 galaxie mounts w/ those. it was slower than shit tho, no torque....they were junkyard motors just to get around. but then you are messing with different rad (i think?)/trans/shaft modifying, yadi yadi. just find another Fe somewhere. the nickel and dime stuff will get ya when swapping a "for now" motor in.
