I thought I would share some pix from this past weekend's gasser project. I dropped my '62 Meteor onto it's new frame. Ladder bar rear with a small tube 9" out of a '65 Thunderbird. Up front is a solid axel out of a '53 Chevy PU. There is still a lot of temp stuff here (like the front springs, tie rod, etc.) plus a lot of cutting to get rid of those inner fenders. The rear has moved forward 4" and the front 2.5". Not knowing what to expect handling wise I didn't want to go for too radical of a wheel base shift on my first one. What do you think so far?
Hey, I like it! Altered wheelbase cars are the best. I'm coming along on my '65 Tempest altered wheelbase myself. Bring your car to my 7th annual nostalgia drags and show here in Phoenix April 5. We can park them together. What engine/trans are you planning to put in it? Will it be streetable? I want to be able to drive mine on the street from time to time. i have a '61 meteor that i was wondering how it would look. damn you, now i might have to change ideas with it. looks great.
Currently the 302 that came out of it is going back into it mated to a beefed up C4 with a trans brake. After driving it a bit I'll make a decision on a new power plant. Yes, it will be streetable. I don't want to have to trailer it everywhere. As for wheel clearance, we had the rear suspension snugged down with moving straps and i didn't take them off until after I had shot the pix. But I think you are right it will need at least a little more room.
YEAH! That is a great body style and you have made it better. I'm not a huge fan of the current rear wheelwell radius, but the car still looks wicked.
Yeah, like I said, we had the suspension compressed with straps to see how much we would need to cut. I took the pictures without undoing the straps. Once the straps were off we had quite a few inches of clearance. But to be on the safe side I'm thinking of taking off a bit more.
Man, that is cool! I've never seen one 'Altered'. I also like the screen name, I was gonna use 'Meatier' for my plates, but I'm not at that point yet.
