What's up everyone? I am in Grand Junction, CO. and I have been building Jeeps for the the last 18 years! The wife and I finally decided to go down a different path and build something we can both enjoy! She hates wheeling! So I actually traded the last Jeep I finished building for a 1962 Mercury Monterey S55 with a 390 in it. The exterior is in really good shape and all the chrome is in great condition, but the interior needs a lot of work! The 390 will also need some love! I cannot wait to get this ride on the road and look forward to any and all advice I can get from everyone. This our first classic build, so I am new to the lingo and accessibility to (hard to find) parts! Talk to ya later, Steve
well you can always add me and rprice76 there is another guy on here frozenmerc (i forget his user name. i can asure you ebay and http://macsautoparts.com/ and http://www.autopartsobsolete.com/cart.php , http://www.classicautopartsonlinecatalog.com/skin/entrymap/NewObsoleteFord.asp?SkinId=7.4.1.64 , and this to help identify what exactly you have http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~stanchfi/monterey.html#1963 im sure i have more information saved here and there .oh and welcome to mercury club to you and your wife
oh i cant forget to mention hamb member big M hes got a salvage yard in california and ships parts, alround a great guy.
Thanks for the heads up on the parts links. Hopefully I can find some things. I like your ride! Wish I had that same back window on mine! These things are simple but fun to work on. Have looked at all into doing a disc brake conversion on the front???
I've peeked at disk brake conversion but stop when i see the price. There are cars like the Granada they use parts for the conversion. There is a set of taillights for your car on Ebay.but the price is big Try contacting big M on here
Yeah, I saw those tail lights on ebay! Ridiculous! My wife just picked up a set of back-up lights for $50. Score! I dropped Big M a pm about parts but havent heard back from him. Where are you located?
he will get back to you trust me. he is awesome to deal with. im located in glendale az . its too bad too your not over here i do upholstery out of my house after work.
That would be sweet! But, it figures! how long have you been building yours? Trying to find parts here locally is like winning the lottery. I wanted a car that was far from normal, now I am paying the price!
I've had it since April. I haven't really had a chance to work much on it, full time job, family and side jobs. Keeps me busy. I have had a chance to find allot of information on my car (H.AM.B.'rs) and places to find parts. I'm not shy to ask everyone if they have parts for my car or leads (i have no shame). Give it 2 months you will be surprised how many parts pop up for you.. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Hey Merchead. My wife and I are in the middle of building an 62 S55 convertible. Yeh, its a parts chase for sure....
I am sooo glad I joined this forum! I finally get to meet like minde guys who share my pain. It's fun though!
Hope this is of some help . https://www.dropbox.com/s/b580gpalolvw42p/50-65 Ford Interchange.pdf And this https://www.dropbox.com/s/gke4amvznm4e6lj/1962 FORD GALAXIE SHOP MANUAL.pdf
Greetings from Durango. I was weeling since '71 and gave up about 15 years ago for pretty much the same reason. I like not having to build everything bomb proof and I only need one driveshaft.
Yes it is nice not having to over build everything! Whew! It's also nice that I can use what I learned building my jeeps on this beast. It is definitely a whole different world though.
Greetings Merchead! Glad you could join us! I found my 63 Monterey by accident - and am hooked! If you think the 62 S55 is hard to find parts for - try a 59 Edsel Wagon. *harumph*
Here's a few of the 63. There's more in my "Saved" thread: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=785268
Hi there Merchead, from Perth, Western Australia. It looks like you've lucked-in to some like-minded HAMBers already. Good luck with the build - how about posting up some pics for us? Cheers.
Wow! She is in really good shape! I love the back window on that year! Wish I could have that integrated into my '62!!!!
Hey Merchead. Congratulations on getting your hands on a very cool car. The drive train and chassis is the same as '62 and '63 Galaxies, so parts are easy to get for that part of it. The body and trim, however can be a bear. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. My '62 Monterey Wagon has been a real interesting project. It currently is in the paint shop and finally out of my garage. Feel free to check out my build thread on the Suedes Car Club Forum. http://www.suedescarclub.com/smf/index.php?topic=2952.0 Good Luck
Thanks guys! I think I got really lucky with this find! However, I did pay a price. I traded a highly modified Jeep Cherokee trailer queen for it! I will miss the dirt, but now it's time to pound the asphalt!!!
