'65 Riviera, one of the only cars on my list of buy and keep. Well maybe a '66 too as they have grown on me.

I agree. I bought a awesome '66 in 1971 for $1,000. You could be cruising along at 70mph and hit
it into p***ing gear and fly. Their style is still timeless today.

In about 1966 we got our first Aurora Model Motoring HO slot car set. One of the included cars was a tan Buick Riviera. My Dad grabbed it and said "That one is mine!" I have always had HO slot car sets and a few years ago I found and bought one identical to that tan one as a keepsake for myself. I owned a real '65 for awhile myself 30 years ago. Beautiful cars, way ahead of their time.

A Riv is just about as good as it gets. I'm also pretty fond of any GM hardtop from 1961.

I have been able to move both the high and low beams into the side pods of 63's and 64's.

I used pieces of plastic reflectors from composite headlamp ***emblies, screwed in, with wide slots for aiming.

It worked well enough that I have a strong su****ion that it might have been an idea that GM had, but never executed. It might have been thwarted by state laws that disallow anything in front of a headlamp.

There are way more bulb locations in these that one might expect to find.

An old one of mine I foolishly let go. 64 with a 65 front end. Drove really nice on simply cut springs. Just a 401-2 barrel, and worn out original interior.

The 63-65 Riv is timelessly beautiful (especially the 65). It was like a factory Custom. I don’t think they’ll ever build cars like that again…

I bought two at one time! The one above was bare metal when I got it and needed some panels repaired along with the hood. We replaced bad panels and fixed the hood and had it about ready for serious final body prep when a guy came along that wanted it... and he bought the ragged parts car, too!
PS The 425 Gran Sport engine with two fours, along with the transmission, got relocated to a certain 1932 Ford cabriolet.

After rebuilding the carbs on the car with a good body, it was fun to drive but it only had the 401 engine. Not sure how it ended up with two fours on a 401 but it was fun!! Switch pitch turbo 400s in both cars that worked well.

It just amazes me that the new kids in Detroit, for so many past decades, cant seem to take a look back at when styling and performance were attainable in one package.

Thanks for posting this cool thread, of some of the finest, well styled, kick *** automobiles, that ever came out of Detroit and GM.

My friend Dave's Riv. Looks a bit different now with a panel paint job, I'll look for more pics.

My friend Eric's '64, probably one of my favorite cars of all time. He did a beautiful job on it.

Also my old '63, the white one. All original car. Bought it up in Elk Grove from the original owners daughter. It was the last new car he bought, he had other cars but this was his baby, and the milage was pretty low. Black leather interior was perfect. OG owner lost his left leg in WWII and never wore a prosthetic so normally where your left foot might rest on the carpet and possibly wear a spot, it was like new. Like an idiot I sold it here on the HAMB maybe 12 years ago. Of course now I want another one but would have to sell the '55 to do that. DSC_1787.jpg 14441342901_283caff390_b.jpg 63riv3.jpg

Aerodynamics, crash safety standards, pedestrian impact injury standards, CAFE standards, and a nearly endless list of other reasons dictate why automakers can no longer make vehicles that look like this.

There are enumerable reasons that modern cars look similar to each other.

Boss man Ryan's old Riv. He posted photos here on the H.A.M.B.
When he had it for sale I thought quite seriously (but briefly!) about buying but settled for swiping this photo for my desktop at work. Beautiful car.
