Hey all, I found a 63 Cadillac with everything and more for a really good price. Anyone know of huge issues I should be looking for prior to getting it?(other than the ususal wear n tear) Thanks
Maybe some electrical issues. I seem to recall that being a problem with Cadillacs and Thunderbirds of that period. Other than that its all good. Besdies, who the hell needs "power" windows anyway -Dean
transmissions can be an issue, if it works, okay. if it doesn't, parts are hard to come by and even harder to find someone to fix it. most of the electrical stuff isn't too hard to fix. the switches can be dis-assembled, cleaned up, points filed, etc..
Just goin' off my bro's '63, there's a few things that I can remember over his time with it that don't work (keep in mind that his has been converted to right hand drive, so lots of things get fucked up or ripped out in the process): -central locking. I THINK it's vacuum. Hasn't ever worked; -electric windows and seats are getting tired; -the motors are a bit of a transition model. It's like the '64 model top end on the '62 bottom end. A bit of an orphan, which is refelected in rebuild parts thru Egge (seem to be about 50-75% more than the year prior). -he had his trans rebuilt so no biggie there anymore; -inner panels don't appear to be painted/primed so internal rust is an issue, although maybe there's some kind of coating 'cos some bits I would expect to be bed aren't necessarily so. -make sure it's got all the side trim......even if you don't want it, It's worth a fortune. Is is a convertible, coupe, 4-window sedan, 6-window sedan, fleetwood......?
It is a coupe deville, i bought it after wavering over the fact of me needing it or not, i figured it was a good deal, so I went for it, check it out here. http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid183/pe612960cd1703c9bdfce68a0bf8fa5ef/f2b5152c.jpg.orig.jpg
